Update on Macon County Detention Center COVID-19 Outbreak

Vistiation has been suspended at the Macon County Detention Facility on September 8th after a person who had tested positive entered the facilty.

The Macon County Sheriffs Office reports some of the COVID-19 tests taken after a person who had tested positive entered the facility have returned. Out of 85 suspected exposures, 83 were tested and 2 refused (the refusals were quarantined and monitored). 82 of the 83 tests have been processed and 24 were positive (all were male inmates) and 58 were negative (a mixture of inmates and staff).

As a result of the number of staff out due to being quarantined, the sheriff is asking citizens to consider putting off applying for Concealed Carry Paermits (CCP) for a couple of weeks.”
Superior Court begins this week: Inmates who have tested positive for Covid19 will Not be transported out of our facility to Superior Court tomorrow but arrangements will be made for video conferencing if it is deemed necessary to appear for any court proceedings.
