Didja see what the Asheville Paper is doing?
ReplyDeleteI think they are trying to steal a march on you, Bob.
I also figured the conservatives to be too lazy to help you out. You need to join the Libertarian Party...we'll put you right to work!
Shuler is gonna be a one hit wonder.
Progressive on helping the needy, huh? A flaming Socialist is more like it! Why don't these yellow dog, Socialist Democrats come right out and admit what they are? Be Proud of being what he is! Conservative Democrat, what an oxymoron.
ReplyDeleteJohn W:
ReplyDeletePretty much all papers in smaller communities are trying to enlist citizen journalists to help them out...
I admit that the conservatives here have been slow to adopt new technologies, and the new media, but they are coming along, conservatively...
I'll join the Libertarian party when they get rid of that stupid pro-drug policy. You know how I feel about drugs and those that use them, you guys didn't call me Mack Bolan for nothing.
I think Shuler will be Congressman for as long as he wants the job, due to informal, unscientific surveys I have taken.
Anon:
Yes, Shuler is a flaming Socialist, with a little dab of conservatism thrown right in the mix. I believe it is called incrementalism...we are being fed a little socialism at a time.
At one time, in my youth, I was a conservative Democrat; until I realized that I was unequally yoked with the pagans who advocated the ritual sacrifice of the unborn to Molech...
Y'all really need to look up the word Socialist. To quote The Princess Bride, "I do not think that word means what you think it means."
ReplyDeleteWell, if you're quoting Princess Bride, I suppose I can't get "too mad at ya." ;^)
ReplyDeleteHeath Shuler as a Socialist...Hmmm.
Minimum Wage...check
Union Supported...check
Uses the term working man alot.
Quotes from Das Kapital...just kidding!
Sounds Socialist to me.
Socialist "one who advocates or practices socialism."
Socialism "advocating collective or government ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods; a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done."
---Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 10th Edition
An "economic, social and political doctrine which expresses the struggle for the equal distribution of wealth by eliminating private property and the exploitative ruling class. In practice, such a distribution of wealth is achieved by social ownership of the means of production, exchange and diffusion." (7)

Yes, a lot of his ideas do pass the smell test for socialism lite. At least he follows the dictates of his faith on abortion rather than that of his party. Were he a republican, I would call him RINO.
So, to be clear, he's not a Socialist in your view?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call him a socialist, his Blue Dog status saves him on that charge. His legislative voting record and public statements will tip the scales one way or the other.
