Second Minor Earthquake in 48 Hours Strikes Haywood County

According to the USGS (United States Geological Survey), a minor earthquake of 2.4 magnitude struck Haywood County in the Beaverdam Township on Thursday evening just before 6.30pm. It was initially reported as 3.1, but a review by a seismologist resulted in a downgrade of the intensity.

The epicenter was located 40.42 miles to the northeast of the Macon County Courthouse and was 2.11 miles east northeast of the magnitude 2.6 earthquake that struck just before 7.30 pm on Tuesday, the 23rd of May. [LINK

Earthquakes of this magnitude occur perhaps three or four times a typical year within a hundred-mile radius of Macon County.
