Almanac

PM2.5 AQI is 60 (MODERATE/CODE YELLOW) for most of the county, and the ridges and other higher elevations PM2.5 AQI is 60 (MODERATE/CODE YELLOW)

Fire and Smoke Map
Today's Air Quality Conditions

Fine particulate concentrations are in the Code Yellow range statewide thus far this afternoon with ozone readings rising into the upper Code Green range statewide as well.

General Forecast Discussion

High pressure will remain parked over the Northeast tomorrow with low pressure near the Bahamas, allowing for steady onshore winds keeping partly sunny and cool weather over the Carolinas. Fine particulate readings in the Code Yellow range are expected to continue statewide as wisps of smoke from the Canadian wildfires travel around the periphery of the Northeast anticyclone and into the Carolinas. Ozone readings should remain fairly muted and in the Code Green range over most of the state with localized readings in the Code Yellow range over and near Charlotte.

Outlook

A frontal boundary will approach the state by Friday, though the prevailing winds will still be onshore in some form during the outlook period -- from out of the east Thursday to out of the northeast Friday. Ozone readings may build into the Code Yellow range locally in/near Charlotte and over the ridge tops Thursday, otherwise Code Green ozone conditions will prevail through Friday. Fine particulate readings may remain stubbornly elevated in the Code Yellow range statewide through Friday, however, owing to areas of light smoke approaching the state.

Local Air Monitor

Pollen

Pollen levels are expected to be in the medium-high range (7.5 out of 12) today with Birch, Hickory, and Oak being the main culprits. Tomorrow is expected to be in the medium-high range (7.2 out of 12).
