GENERAL OUTLOOK

High pressure will result in chilly and dry conditions today and likely Thursday. Conditions turn even colder Friday as precipitation returns to the area, with a wintry mix likely in portions of western North Carolina. Chances for precipitation linger through the weekend, with warmer but still below-normal temperatures.

..TODAY....Patchy fog this morning. Sunny. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times this morning. Highs in the upper 40s. Light and variable winds in the morning increasing and shifting to come out of the west around 5 mph this afternoon.

..TONIGHT....Mostly clear. Lows around 30. Winds out of the northwest around 5 mph.

..THURSDAY....Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s. Winds out of the northwest around 5 mph.

..THURSDAY NIGHT....Cloudy. Rain likely after midnight. Lows in the lower 30s. Winds out of the east around 5 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

..FRIDAY....Freezing rain. Rain. Highs in the upper 30s. Win ds out of the southeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.

..FRIDAY NIGHT....Cloudy. Rain likely, mainly in the evening. Near steady temperatures in the upper 30s. Chance of rain 60 percent.



HAZARDOUS WEATHER

Light wintry mix across the highest elevations of the mountains through sunrise before changing to all rain. Little to no accumulations expected.

Light snow is likely to develop Thursday night and continue into Friday morning, mixing with rain. Light snow accumulations cannot be ruled out, and could cause hazardous conditions to develop on area roadways. Monitor your favorite source of weather information through Friday morning for the latest forecast, as expectations may change.
