Town of Franklin
Notice is hereby given that the Franklin Town Council will have a special called meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be held at the OEI Springhouse located on Spring Street in Highlands, North Carolina for the purpose of holding a joint meeting with the Town of Highlands and the Macon County Board of Commissioners.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. A westward-moving tropical wave is producing a small but concentrated area of thunderstorms about 850 miles east of the Windward Islands. Some additional development is possible today before upper-level winds become increasingly unfavorable for tropical cyclone formation starting tonight and continuing through the weekend.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.
2. A non-tropical low pressure system is forecast to develop by Friday night over the central subtropical Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Azores. Conditions are expected to be conducive for the low to acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics, and a subtropical or tropical cyclone could form over the weekend or early next week while the low meanders over the central Atlantic Ocean.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

Fontana Regional Library to Observe Banned Books Week
With the American Library Association, Fontana Regional Library will celebrate Banned Books Week 2018 September 23-29. The nationwide observance brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, authors, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek out and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
A banned book is one that has been removed from a school or library based upon the objections of a person or group; a challenged book is one that is threatened with removal or restriction. In many cases, a challenge is unsuccessful and the book remains on the shelf.
