Macon County Board of Commissioners Initial Videos of February 2020 Meeting

The Macon County Board of Commissioners met last night for their regular February 2020 meeting.

Due to the amount of public interest in a proposed resolution regarding the Second Amendment, both for and against, the meeting had to be moved upstairs to the large courtroom as the Commissioners Boardroom can only legally accommodate 49 people. The meeting lasted about four hours and most of it was streamed live on Facebook, when Macon Media was not experiencing technical issues. The sound through part of it is very poor, due to a combination of people not speaking properly into the provided microphones (both members of the public and county commissioners and staff).

Due to the length of the meeting, it will take several days to process the video. Macon Media is still processing video from the February 2020 meeting of the Franklin Town Council and the Budget Work Session hosted by the County Commissioners last week.

Commissioners Discuss Resolution Supporting the Second Amendment

Here is a segment from the budget work session held by the Macon County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Feb 6th. Commissioners discussed proposed resolutions supporting the Second Amendment of the US Constitution in light of a petition delivered by residents requesting the commissioners pass a resolution making Macon County a gun or Second Amendment Sanctuary. Other segments will be published as I can get to them. This one was published first due to it being an issue at the next meeting of the county commissioners, despite not being on the agenda. Agenda Released for February 2020 Commissioner Meeting

The Macon County Board of Commissioners will be meeting Tuesday night for their regularly scheduled meeting for February 2020. Copy of the public agenda and agenda packet are posted below. While the resolution expressing support or opposition to the Second Amendment Sanctuary is not on the agenda, Macon Media understands there will be people at the meeting both in support and in opposition to such a resolution.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6pm on Tuesday in the Commissioners Boardroom. If more than 49 people show up, they will have to meet upstairs in the large courtroom in order to comply with the fire code regulations. Macon Media will be there and will attempt a live video stream of the meeting.

Agenda for First County Budget 2020 Session Released

The annual county budget process will begin Thursday morning, February 6th, at 10am. Items on the agenda include the Macon Middle School Project, the Space Needs Analysis plan, the Mid-Year Financial Review, tax software, ad valorem revenue projections, a preliminary look at the school system budget. The meeting is expected to last several hours.
