High winds knocked power to over 1,100 Maconians, including 656 Haywood EMC customers and 464 Duke Duke Energy customers.
Several thousand in western North Carolina have also been without electrical services overnight. Crews are at work restoring power and are expected to have service restored by noon today (Sunday) in Macon County.
Below are details from a couple of the larger outages.
An outage on the eastern shore of Nantahala Lake has left 265 Duke Energy customers without service. Power is expected to be restored by 6 am this morning.
An outage around the Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in the area of Macon County that borders Jackson County has left 190 Duke Energy customers without power. Duke Energy expects to have service restored at this location by 7 am in the morning.
Outages in the region of Macon County served by Haywood EMC has left over 650 Haywood EMC customers without electrical service overnight. Haywood EMC expects to have power restored to their customers by noon Sunday.
