Cool and dry high pressure will persist over the region through tonight. A weak cold front will cross the area from the northwest late Saturday, but with limited moisture. Dry high pressure will return Sunday through the early part of next week, with temperatures gradually increasing to above normal values. A back door cold front may arrive from the Mid-Atlantic region on Wednesday.

Pisgah Legal recommends the NC Medicaid Ombudsman for Medicaid beneficiaries who need education, guidance and advocacy [MaconMedia.com] ProPublica has collected information on the Paycheck Protection Program participants and organized them into a database made available to the public and made it interactive, allowing employees to report whether or not the loan recipiants have complied with the conditions of the loans, most of which have been forgiven. The searches of the datatbase can be by zipcode, buysiness name, or name of town in which the business is located. Below is more information about the program.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is a $953-billion business loan program established by the United States federal government in 2020 through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) to help certain businesses, self-employed workers, sole proprietors, certain nonprofit organizations, and tribal businesses continue paying their workers.

The Paycheck Protection Program allows entities to apply for low-interest private loans to pay for their payroll and certain other costs. The amount of a PPP loan is approximately equal to 2.5 times the applicant's average monthly payroll costs. In some cases, an applicant may receive a second draw typically equal to the first. The loan proceeds may be used to cover payroll costs, rent, interest, and utilities. The loan may be partially or fully forgiven if the business keeps its employee counts and employee wages stable. The program is implemented by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The deadline to apply for a PPP loan was initially June 30, 2020, and was later extended to August 8. The Paycheck Protection Program was reopened on January 11, 2021.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Sam, located about 1200 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands, and on Subtropical Storm Teresa, located about 150 miles north-northwest of Bermuda.
1. A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa in a couple of days. Thereafter, environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while the system moves westward at 10 to 15 mph over the far eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

IMAGE RED SAND PROJECT
Zonta Club of the Franklin Area Red Sand Project
The Red Sand Project will be held in front of the Macon County Courthouse in downtown Franklin on Saturday October 2 at 9 a.m. Social distancing will be practiced and masks are advised.
Come and help to draw attention to those who metaphorically “fall through the cracks” and become victims of human trafficking. Women and children are more likely to be victims; unfortunately trafficking often goes unrecognized and is far more prevalent here than most people realize. Zonta will highlight how it affects our community and our country and introduce some of the organizations here that combat it. Participants will be given red sand that they will use to fill the cracks in the sidewalk, to draw attention to those who cannot advocate for themselves.
