Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will continue over the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia through Thursday. Temperatures will run well above normal with daily records in jeopardy through Thursday. A cold front will arrive from the northwest on Friday and bring the chance for at least scattered showers to our area Friday and Friday night, but appreciable rainfall is not expected. The front will move southeast of the region over the weekend with much cooler and mainly dry weather continuing into early next week.

Here is a map to update you on the location and size fo the wildfires in western North Carolina. Data is the most recent update from the ICS Command except where indicated. There are currently no wildfires in Macon County, but the smoke from the Collett Ridge Fire in Clay County, The Mill Mountain Fire in South Carolina, and the East Fork Fire in Jakcon County are responsible for the generally smoky conditions here. When the wind pattern changes, smoke can accumulate in the valleys as can be seen from the readout of a local air quality monitoring station that has been posted below.

There are multiple hazardous conditions that have the potential to impoact Macon County residents. There is an Air Quality Alert for smoke from nearby wildires and a burn ban is now in effect due to dry conditions and low humidity.
