PRESS RELEASE (08-10-2026)
MACON COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY
Dear Members and Friends,
Following the recent news regarding Congressman Chuck Edwards stepping back from the NC-11 race, we wanted to reach out with an update on what happens next. Under North Carolina election law (N.C.G.S. § 163-114), when a party nominee steps down prior to the general election, the vacancy is filled through an official appointment process. The NC-11 Congressional District Executive Committee will convene to vote on and appoint a replacement candidate to represent our party on the ballot. This important meeting will take place in Asheville this evening, so our replacement candidate will be publicized by tomorrow.
At the local level, strong leadership in our education system has never been more vital. We are proud to endorse Kaleena Keener Messer for the Macon County School Board. Kaleena brings a steadfast commitment to high academic standards, strong parental rights, transparent governance, and student-centered learning. Her dedication to supporting our teachers, protecting foundational values, and ensuring our school system serves every family makes her the ideal leader for Macon County schools.
We invite all members, conservative neighbors, and community supporters to join us for our General Meeting this Thursday evening. We will be coordinating grassroots efforts for our endorsed candidates, as well as outlining key priorities leading up to Election Day. Your voice and participation are essential as we work together for Macon County.
Meeting Details:
- Date: Thursday, August 13
- Time: 6:30 PM
- Location: Robert C. Carpenter Center
Thank you for your continued engagement and dedication to our community. We look forward to seeing you Thursday night!
Warm regards,
Patti Trick, Chairwoman
Macon County Republican Party
