Little Free Libraries Coming to Otto

A Little Free Library on Main Street in Franklin

PRESS RELEASE

Karen Wallace, Director
Fontana Regional Library
149 Siler Farm Road
Franklin, NC  28734
(828) 524-3600 (voice)

The Macon County Public Library, a member of the Fontana Regional Library, and the Friends of the Library are pleased to be assisting with the installation of two Little Free Libraries in Otto. One of the libraries will be located at the Otto Community Development Building, 60 Fire House Road, just north of the Otto Post Office. The second little library will be at the Mulberry Methodist Church, 155 Mulberry Road, 2 miles north of the Georgia state line. Mulberry Methodist Church’s little library is in honor of Addie Williams.

The Friends of the Library have been instrumental in placing Little Free Libraries at the Franklin Town Hall, the Iotla Methodist Church, and the Holly Springs Community Building. These libraries are conveniently located in great places for people of all ages to find good things to read. If you’re not familiar with Little Free Libraries, check out their website at www.littlefreelibrary.org.

The Otto little libraries, built by the 2016 Franklin High School Carpentry Class under the guidance of Mr. Rick Rogers, were inspired by the architecture of our larger library. Thanks go out to all of the volunteers who made the little libraries possible, with special thanks to Sherry Miller, Roy and Ann McClure, and Sherron Geiger. The little libraries will be stocked with books collected by members of the Otto community, books donated to the Friends of the Library, and children’s books donated to Read2Me. Everyone is encouraged to use the Little Free Libraries to find something to read, where they can “take a book and return a book.”

We’d love to have you join us to celebrate the installation of the Little Free Libraries in Otto on Monday, November 14th at 10:30am (weather permitting). Students from the FHS Carpentry Class will be on hand for this informal, brief event, which will begin at the Otto Community Development Building before heading south to the Mulberry Methodist Church. If you can’t make it, no problem – the Little Free Libraries will be there for you on your next visit to the Otto community!
