LOCAL OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will build over the region through tonight. A cold front will cross the area from the northwest early Thursday morning. Another dry high pressure will dominate our weather through Saturday night. Low pressure and a cold front are expected to return from the west on Sunday into Monday.

Mostly sunny with highs ranging from the upper 30s in the higher elevations and the low to mid-40s in the lower elevations. Wind chills near or below freezing at times. Winds 10 to 15 mph out of the northwest.

Partly cloudy with lows ranging from the upper teens in the higher elevations and the low to mid-20s in the lower elevations. Winds out of the northwest.

...Strong winds possible across portions of the North Carolina mountains early this morning and again tonight...

.Strong northwesterly cold advection will lead to gusty winds through about daybreak this morning. Then there will be a lull in the winds until early this evening, when westerly winds increase again and persist through tonight across portions of the North Carolina mountains.

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST THIS MORNING ABOVE 3500 FEET...
...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM EST THURSDAY ABOVE 3500 FEET...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Wind Advisory ABOVE 3500 FEET, which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 AM EST Thursday.

* LOCATIONS...The central and southern mountains of western North Carolina above 3500 feet elevation.

* HAZARDS...Strong wind gusts.

* TIMING...Lasting through daybreak this morning. Then winds increase again this evening through tonight.

* WINDS...Northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph early

this morning. West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* IMPACTS...Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
