Foster Grandparent Program is Seeking Volunteers

PRESS RELEASE
MOUNTAIN PROJECTS - HAYWOOD COUNTY

Hello My name is Ashley Duckett. I work for Mountain Projects in Haywood County. I am the coordinator for the Foster Grandparent Program. The Foster Grandparents is a nonprofit program that is funded by a federal grant. Our mission is to place Senior Volunteers in schools, child care centers, and head start programs. Our goal is to keep seniors active and socialized while also adding extra support in classrooms to teachers and students who may need extra help and attention. Foster Grandparents help children learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring, and guide children at a critical time in their lives. Foster Grandparents give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future. We service seniors in the 7 Western Counties. We currently have 36 amazing volunteers in Western NC. We need around 15 more to fulfill the requirements of our grant. I was wondering if it would be possible to get you to share information about the program on your facebook page or possibly in the paper.

The Foster Grandparent Program is looking for individuals age 55 and over who thrive on direct interaction with children and believe they can make a difference in their lives. We have many volunteer positions available in Elementary Schools, Head Starts, and Early Child Care Centers. Volunteers are paid a Tax Free stipend of $2.65 an hour as well as mileage. Volunteers also earn paid vacation, holiday and sick leave. Income earned doesn't affect any benefits or assistance received by the volunteer. We serve Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties. Call Ashley Duckett at (828)400-0906 for more information!
