OUTLOOK

Shower and thunderstorm chances will continue from this afternoon through the weekend as a weak cold front approaches then crosses the Carolinas. High pressure builds in behind the departing cold front Sunday into Monday, leading to drier conditions. Another weak cold front may approach the area during the middle of next week, but the details of this front`s timing and impacts remain unclear.

A few strong to severe storms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening, mainly in the Piedmont. Damaging winds would be the most likely form of any severe weather. Heavy rainfall may also create a localized flash flood risk.
