GENERAL OUTLOOK

Temperatures will warm a few degrees as moisture streams back into the forecast area early this week. A cold front approaches from the northwest, bolstering rain and thunder chances Monday afternoon and evening, before settling south of the area on Tuesday and keeping below-normal temperatures and intermittent rain chances in the forecast through the end of the week.

Hazards and Tropical Weather

Scattered strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon through late in the evening evening, with a few possibly becoming severe. Primary threats are straight-line damaging winds, isolated large hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Localized heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, mainly in low lying, poor-drainage areas.

1. Central Atlantic Ocean:
A broad trough of low pressure continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the central Atlantic several hundred miles south-southeast of Bermuda. Development, if any, of this system should be slow to occur due to generally unfavorable environmental conditions while the disturbance moves slowly north-northwestward or northward during the next few days.

2007 – An 8.0-magnitude earthquake off the Pacific coast devastates Ica and various regions of Peru killing 514 and injuring 1,090.

2013 – At least 27 people are killed and 226 injured in an explosion in southern Beirut near a complex used by Lebanon's militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. A previously unknown Syrian Sunni group claims responsibility in an online video.

2013 – The Smithsonian announces the discovery of the olinguito, the first new carnivorous species found in the Americas in 35 years.

2015 – North Korea moves its clock back half an hour to introduce Pyongyang Time, 81⁄2 hours ahead of UTC.
