A cold front and weak low pressure moves south of our area today and the front becomes stationary. Moisture will increase as low pressure approaches from the northwest by the weekend. Temperatures will be below normal especially through the middle of the week. Chances for rain will continue each day.

Hazards and Tropical Weather

Scattered strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon through late in the evening evening, with a few possibly becoming severe. Primary threats are straight-line damaging winds, isolated large hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Localized heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, mainly in low lying, poor-drainage areas.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Southwestern Gulf of Mexico:
A tropical wave currently located over the southwestern Caribbean Sea is forecast to move across Central America during the next few days and emerge over the Bay of Campeche, where an area of low pressure could form on Friday. Some gradual development of this system is possible while it moves northwestward over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico through the weekend.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.
