Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Ongoing blustery conditions and northwest flow snow showers can be expected above 3500 feet through the day as cooler air returns to the region. Dry high pressure builds into the region over the weekend then slides east, allowing warmer temperatures to return by the start of next week.




PUBLIC MEETING - GRANT APPLICATION FOR WHITMIRE INCLUSIVE PLAY AREA

At their, April 1, 2024 meeting, the Franklin Town Council approved application for a NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) Grant for up to $500,000. A public meeting will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room to gain public input on this grant application.

The grant requires a one-to-one match of funding approved. The grant being submitted is for the Whitmire Inclusive Play Area and will include not only the play area with pour in place surface, but the necessary parking areas, restrooms and connecting sidewalks.

4-13-24—Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter Al Scortino takes the corner with his heartfelt and whimsical musical creations along with multi-insturmentalist, Greg “Squeezebox” Thomas. Welcome back, guys!

4-20-24—Singer/Songwriter Zip Robertson returns to Frog Quarters after a long hiatus. Zip hales recently from Coffee Shops and venues in Swain County and Frog Quarters is happy he’s travelling across the hill to be with us again.

4-27-24—-------------SUPER ADOPTION DAY at Frogs!!
PAWSITIVE (the Macon Co. Animal Shelter Volunteers) and AARC (the Appalachian Animal Rescue Center) will be conducting a great Adoption Day on the outside, while on the inside several of our area talented musicians will bring their talents to Frog Quarters. On the slate are:

503 BC – Roman consul Agrippa Menenius Lanatus celebrates a triumph for a military victory over the Sabines.

1268 – A five-year Byzantine–Venetian peace treaty is concluded between Venetian envoys and Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos.

1423 – Death of the Venetian Doge Tommaso Mocenigo, under whose rule victories were achieved against the Kingdom of Hungary and against the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Gallipoli (1416).
