Young Republicans Launch Buncombe Chapter
I am seeing the emergence of new networks all over the nation (and North Carolina) as Republicans have taken stock of the results of the last election and are now beginning to take steps to make new advances in party membership and are beginning to seek ways to engage more people in the electoral process.

Republicans all across WNC invited to participate at group's kickoff meeting in Asheville
While voting membership for the Buncombe Chapter is only open to registered Republicans in the county ages 18-40, YR Chairman Kristopher Cox is encouraging Republicans of any age from across Western North Carolina to attend Monday's meeting to "celebrate our beliefs, show your pride and dedication to the Republican Party."
Cox and his group also want to hear from others across WNC interested in forming their own YR chapters. "We intend to re-introduce what it means to be a Republican...we want to be the party's ambassadors to a to a whole new generation of voters."

Today is a very busy day in the General Assembly with over twenty meetings and two Press Conferences scheduled, and all this before the Senate and House have regular session at 3pm!

Smoky Evening in Northeast Macon County
There is a brushfire near my house this evening, and here are a couple of photos, with another larger one on my photoblog. There is a Fire Danger Statement in effect from the National Weather Service for most of western North Carolina, so no burning until further notice. Northern Georgia is under a Red Flag Warning.

Best Viewing for Comet Lulin is Tonight

There's a weird, double-tailed comet in the sky this week (the last week in February), and you can spot it with a pair of binoculars. Some people have even been detecting it dimly with their unaided eyes — under very dark, un-light-polluted, rural skies.
You will, however, have to knowexactly where to look. The chart at right should get you there. It shows the starry scene about 9 p.m. this week. (The view will actually be a bit better later at night, when the comet and its background gets higher in the sky. After 10 p.m., look more for this scene toward the southeast.)
The comet, formally known as C/2007 N3 (Lulin), was discovered at Lulin Observatory in Taiwan in July 2007. In telescopes and low-light images, it's showing both a dim gas tail and a dust-spike antitail pointing in nearly the opposite direction. Its current brightness is about magnitude 5.2.

Be sure and take precautions to keep warm and give your eyes a little while to adapt to the darkness outside, and if you have a pair of binoculars, give them a try as well.

National Museum of Americans During Wartime
A new museum honoring citizens who served our country in times of war at home and abroad will be opening up on November 11, 2012, and you can help them.
Thanks to the evil progressives at BlueNC, who can't stand the thought of Americans serving America during war time (and would prefer to protest against her), I became aware of this effort during my morning patrol through the Lefty Hate-o-sphere.
For a nominal sum of $25, you can become a member of the museum, and receive a newsletter that will keep you updated on the activities of the museum.
