Meeting Summary
This was a continuation meeting from the regular meeting held last Tuesday. During this meeting, commissioners held a public hearing on the proposed budget (no one spoke during this public hearing). Commissioners approved the budget by a vote of 5-0. Commissioners also held a public hearing on the proposed 2019 Schedule of Land Values. This rulebook for the upcoming property evaluation will be voted on by the board at the next meeting on the first Tuesday in July.
Commissioners approved a loan with Entra Bank to finance for the addition at South Macon Elementary School. The vote was 3-1-1. Commissioner Gillespie voted no because he would rather have paid for the construction from the county fund reserve balance, currently over $20,000,000. Commissioner Beale abstained, recusing himself because he serves on the Entegra Bank Board of Directors. Commissioners also approved a bid for a construction company to do the addition at the school. The name of the company according to the handouts provided to the media at the meeting is Brantley, but no other information about where the company is located was included. Other bidders were listed as H&M Constructors and Harper Corporation.
Commissioners also approved contracts with the Franklin Chamber of Commerce and the Highlands Chamber of Commerce to provide Travel and Tourism Development services to the county.
