Hazards

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and into this evening. Cloud-to-ground lightning and brief heavy rain may occur with any storm, and a few storms may produce gusty winds. A few storms could become severe and generate damaging wind gusts.

Air Quality

Air quality should be in the upper range of green today for the county and lower yellow range for the ridgetops.

An approaching upper-level wave today will result in increasing clouds and the potential for isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the state, especially across the northern counties, though some shower and thunderstorm activity will also be possible over the southern Foothills and Piedmont as well. Ozone and fine particulate readings may rise as high as the lower Code Yellow range in the southern Piedmont and Sandhills with Code Yellow ozone also possible over the ridge tops, but could be lower if showers and thunderstorms are more prevalent. Code Green conditions are otherwise expected over the rest of the state.
