Daily Weather Briefing for 2018 Christmas Eve






Fire Damages Dillard House Motel

A fire broke out at the Dillard House Motel on Sunday afternoon. Otto and Franklin Fire Departments responded to provide assistance. One end of the motel sustained damage the fire reached a common attic area and ventilated itself before firefighters brought it under control and extinguished it. The State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the fire.

According to a report by a radio station in Rabun County, “[t]wo rooms sustained heavy fire damage at the end of the building and two more had smoke and water damage. “

Christmas Carols on the Square

For those of you who have no church home that has an event scheduled tonight, this is a reminder of the planned community event to briefly sing Christmas Carols around the Christmas Tree at the Gazebo at 6 pm on Christmas Eve.

Dry high pressure will build in from the west on today. This high will persist through mid-week in advance of a highly moist frontal system expected over the area Thursday through Friday.

Weather Hazards

Hazardous weather is not expected today. Widespread rain is expected to overspread the area on Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook regarding the potential for flooding later this week. A copy is posted below.

A large low-pressure system will develop to our west and bring another round of widespread, potentially heavy, precipitation to the area for Thursday and Friday. Additional flooding along creeks and streams as well as main stem rivers will be possible.
