OUTLOOK

A strengthening high-pressure ridge will build over the Southeast through the weekend, with warming temperatures but also afternoon and evening thunderstorms redeveloping each day through at least Tuesday. The high-pressure ridge will dominate the southeast through much of next week.

Patchy fog in the morning. Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the 70s. Winds out of the west 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Tonight

Partly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the 50s to near 60. Winds out of the northwest around 5 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Sunday

Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the 70s to around 80. Winds out of the west around 5 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Sunday Night

A chance of thunderstorms in the evening. Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. Lows from around 60 to the 50s. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Memorial Day

Mostly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. A chance of showers in the morning, then showers likely in the afternoon. Highs in the 70s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Monday Night

Mostly cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. Showers likely, mainly in the evening. Lows ranging from the lower 60s to the upper 50s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Areas of dense fog is expected this morning. Use caution if driving. Use low beam headlights and fog lamps and
allow plenty of distance between vehicles. Other than this, no hazardous weather is anticipated for today and tonight.

Here are some numbers from the CDC, the NCDHHS, and the Johns Hopkins Dashboard. Macon Media prefers the Johns Hopkins Dashboard because the counts include those non-residents that are left out of the CDC and NCDHHS numbers.

The CDC website [LINK] reports 20,860 people in North Carolina are infected, 716 have died, and infections are widespread, the NCDHHS website [LINK] reports 21,618 confirmed cases from 303,224 targeted tests, and 568 hospitalized and 728 deaths in the state. The Johns Hopkins Dashboard [LINK] reports 22,110 people infected and 775 deaths (these include non-residents located in NC).
