First Presbyterian Church is Raising Money for the Black Mountain Home for Children

The First Presbyterian Church has had an annual fundraiser to benefit the Black Mountain Home for Children, but have had to adapt to the current pandemic. They have set up a tent in Speakers Corner at the side of the courthouse along Iotla Street this morning and will be there from 10am to 2pm today.

History and Current Mission of the Home (taken from their website):

Begun by Presbyterian minister Robert Perry Smith in 1904 as Mountain Orphanage, the Home began its ministry taking in Appalachian children whose parents had died or disappeared. Today, the ministry serves youth from birth through college graduation through family foster care, residential care, transitional living, and independent living.

These donations will assist the home for children to continue their mission to help these children throiugh graduation from college.

One lucky donor of at least $10 will be awarded yard art (pictured above) by local artist Eric Duvall.

If you cannot drop by and give them a donation today, you can drop by or contact the church office. Their Office Hours are Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, and Friday 8:30 am - 11:30 am, and the office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Their telephone number is 828-524-3119 and you can email them at for more information.
