GENERAL OUTLOOK

Small rain chances return today through Thursday, mainly across western areas as a cold front approaches. The front will cross our area Thursday night into Friday, with rain ending by the weekend. Dry and cooler conditions are expected for Saturday and Sunday before above normal temperatures return early next week.

Saturday March 4th chilli cook off at the community building 2 to 4pm. $5 entry fee to come in and taste chilli and vote for your favorite. All proceeds go to helping a child go to gymnastics camp this summer with her team mates.

Macon County Board of Commissioners Meeting

The February 2023 Regular Meeting of the Macon County Board of Commissioners. Meeting begins at 6pm in the commissioners boardroom on the third floor. Access after 5pm will be through the back entrance to the courthouse. The public agenda and agenda packet will be added soon.

Wed, Feb 22, 6:30 PM in the Macon County Public Library Meeting Room – Carolina Built with Kianna Alexander Join NC Humanities for an interactive panel discussion examining themes from this month’s NC Reads selection. This panel will explore the story based on the life and legacy of Josephine N. Leary, an African-American entrepreneur and business woman who lived in North Carolina during the Reconstruction Era. 2001 – The first draft of the complete human genome is published in Nature.

2003 – Protests against the Iraq war take place in over 600 cities worldwide. It is estimated that between eight million and 30 million people participate, making this the largest peace demonstration in history.

2010 – Two trains collide in the Halle train collision in Halle, Belgium, killing 19 and injuring 171 people.

2012 – Three hundred and sixty people die in a fire at a Honduran prison in the city of Comayagua.

2013 – A meteor explodes over Russia, injuring 1,500 people as a shock wave blows out windows and rocks buildings. This happens unexpectedly only hours before the expected closest ever approach of the larger and unrelated asteroid 2012 DA14.

2021 – Sixty people drown and hundreds are missing after a boat sinks on the Congo River near the village of Longola Ekoti, Mai-Ndombe Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
