GENERAL OUTLOOK

A cold front will cross the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia this morning. Abundant moisture will accompany the frontal passage, with drying and cooling developing in the wake of the front by this afternoon. This will last through the weekend, except for brief snow showers along the mountain spine tonight. Another chance of rain will return by the middle of next week, with much warmer temperatures expected.

Saturday March 4th chilli cook off at the community building 2 to 4pm. $5 entry fee to come in and taste chilli and vote for your favorite. All proceeds go to helping a child go to gymnastics camp this summer with her team mates.

A Wind Avisory is in effect until 4am Saturday. A copy is posted below this hazardous weather outlook. Minor flooding may result after the rainfall that occured overnight and early this morning. Winds will increase behind the cold front this afternoon through tonight. Gusts of 35 to 45 mph will be possible across the higher terrain, especially across the northern mountains and at elevations above 3500 feet. Even stronger gusts will be possible on the higher peaks and ridge tops.

* WHAT...Winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph expected.

* WHERE...The mountains of western North Carolina, especially in higher elevations, and in the foothills along the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

* WHEN...Until 4 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A lull in wind activity is possible this morning as rain tapers off while winds remain southerly. Winds should shift to northwest and become strong and gusty again by late morning to midday, then remain strong into tonight.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
