Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Cool and dry high pressure will move off the East Coast later today. An area of low pressure is forecast to develop over the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday, then move northeast up the East Coast early next week. Heavy rainfall and windy conditions will be possible along and near the track of this low pressure system Sunday into Monday. Dry high pressure will return Tuesday and remain over our region into late week.

Hazardous weather is not expected today or tonight.

Heavy rainfall may develop over the latter half of the weekend due to a strong low pressure system moving northward out of the Gulf of Mexico. Considerable uncertainty exists over the track of this system, but flooding is possible Sunday or Sunday night if the heavy rain does develop. Windy to very windy conditions are also possible throughout the region. Follow the forecast closely through Sunday for the latest information.

2014 – Gunman Man Haron Monis takes 18 hostages inside a café in Martin Place for 16 hours in Sydney. Monis and two hostages are killed when police raid the café the following morning.

2017 – A 6.5Mw earthquake strikes the Indonesian island of Java in the city of Tasikmalaya, resulting in four deaths.
