High pressure moves off the East Coast as an area of low pressure develops over the Gulf of Mexico today and moves along the coast. Heavy rainfall and windy conditions will be possible Sunday into Monday. Dry high pressure will return Tuesday and remain over the region into late week.

Hazards

A high wind advisory is in effect for Macon County today into early this evening. Winds could gust 45 to 55 mph at times across the high elevations, and in areas along and near the Blue Ridge Escarpment. In addition, snow showers are expected to develop across the mountains today into tonight, mainly across the Tennessee border counties. Light snow accumulations appear likely, especially in the higher elevations.
