Hot and humid, with afternoon thunder expected today, and increasing coverage of showers and storms on Thursday ahead of a cold front. The front crosses the area Thursday night, ushering in drier air and quieter weather for the first half of the weekend. By the latter half of this weekend, heat and humidity work back into the area in full force.

Daily showers and storms are expected during the afternoon today and Thursday. A few storms could produce strong winds, along with isolated flooding due to heavy downpours.
A frontal boundary will move across the region Thursday, possibly producing a line of storms. Isolated severe storms are possible during the afternoon and early evening hours with the main concern being damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall.
Temperatures will warm over the weekend. Heat index values exceeding 100 degrees will be possible generally along and south of I-40 over the weekend through early next week.
