Weather Briefing for Wednesday, June 25, 2025

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Heat and humidity remains elevated today, as a large upper level high dominates over the region. The upper ridge will begin to weaken, however, allowing for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through this evening. The high will continue to break down gradually over the next few days, resulting in less oppressive heat, but still humid conditions. An upper disturbance will linger over the Southeast states, resulting in increased shower and thunderstorm chances across the area each day through early next week.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER

Temperatures will rise into the 90s in the lower elevations today, and the humidity will make it feel like it is in the upper 90s. Please limit strenuous activities and drink plenty of fluids.

In addition to the heat, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop mid to late afternoon and continue through early evening across the region. Some storms may become severe, with the main threat being damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall. Large hail will be a secondary threat.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

You can protect yourself from the heat by drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, wearing loose-fitting, light colored clothing, and staying indoors in air conditioning when possible. If you have to work outside, take regular breaks in the shade and monitor for signs of heat illness. Make sure to check on those who are most vulnerable to the heat. Never leave people or pets alone in a locked car.
