I always find it deliciously ironic that the left...ostensibly against the death penalty, would hold a man who murdered in cold blood as a hero, adorning their clothing, walls, and vehicles. This should tell you all you need to know about progressives...they are harbingers of socialism, and would bring a new generation of murderers and executioners with them. It is also one of the things that set me against the Ron Paul Revolution, so many Idiot Ron Paul Supporters idolize Che Guevera, as indicated in this T-Shirt design.

In Minnesota, of all places, citizens are standing up to their tyrannical government by...lighting up. Smoking has been barred in restaurants and bars. Unless it is as part of a theatrical production. In at least one location, people take part in the evenings entertainment, and Captain Ed has the program for the performance.

And, speaking of tyrannical government, if either Democrat gets elected to the office of President in November, we are likely to be forced to buy health care...even if we don't want it. The bottom line of this whole exercise is to steal money from the healthy to pay for the insurance, and the votes, of the unhealthy. And speaking of tyrannical behavior...the lefties at CNN are now joining the lefty boycott of Fox News by dissing one of the guys on their die at Fox - Geraldo Rivera - who has a new book coming out, "His Panic: Why Americans Fear Hispanics in the U.S." - was booked to appear on Nancy Grace's CNN show on Feb. 28. But then he was disinvited and told CNN had "a blanket boycott" against anyone from Fox. " 'The Most Trusted Name in News' just chickened out," Rivera told Page Six. "This reveals a corporate insecurity." Fox has had on as guests both Wolf Blitzer and Glenn Beck. A CNN rep denied any boycott and blamed a scheduling conflict. Newsbusters has the story.

At least Governor Mike Huckabee's "Al Gore" moment has slipped away with the loss of the Washington vote count, what a silly boy he is, he doeasn't even realize the race for the GOP nomination is over, and McCain can win in November!

Iraqi, US forces capture senior Special Groups (Iran) operative in Hillah

With Muqtada al Sadr set to decide on the status of the Mahdi Army ceasefire on Feb. 23, US and Iraqi security forces continue to step up operations against the Iranian-backed Special Groups and Sadr's Mahdi Army. The latest raid netted a senior regional Special Groups leader and ten others. According to the Iraqi press, two senior members of the Sadrist current were detained in the raid.

The senior Special Groups leader was captured in Hillah during a raid conducted by a joint Coalition Special Forces team and elements of Iraqi police. The leader is believed to be a regional commander of Special Groups teams in Wasit, Babil and Najaf provinces, as well as a coordinator for weapon shipments, and a planner and operational leader of attacks against Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces. Eleven Special Groups operatives were reported captured in the raid.

Two of those captured were senior leaders in Muqtada al Sadr's political movement, according to Voices of Iraq. A raid by "joint Iraqi Scorpion forces and U.S. troops arrested Basim al Kilabi, the tribal affairs official at al Sadr's office, and ten others following a raid on one of Hilla's villages on Sunday," a member of Sadr's media office told the Iraqi newspaper. Also captured was Qassem al Fatlawi, another member of the Sadrist current.

While it is unclear if either Kilabi or Fatlawi are the captured senior Special Groups operative, it is likely Kilabi was the target of the raid. As tribal affairs officer, Kibali would have contacts cutting across the provincial boundaries, and his position would mask his movements and contacts.

The Special Groups was created by Iran's Qods Force, the special operations branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, to destabilize the Iraqi regime, strike at US and Coalition forces, and extend Iran's sphere of influence in southern and central Iraq. Iran established the Ramazan Corps as a sophisticated command structure to coordinate military, intelligence, terrorist, diplomatic, religious, ideological, propaganda, and economic operations. The Special Groups falls under Qods Force's Ramazan Corps.

(VIDEO) Yellowtop Mountain Estates Fire

ASHEVILLE – About 50 firefighters are working today to contain a brush fire in the Broad River community near Old Fort Road in southeast Buncombe County.

The blaze, which began yesterday afternoon, has already consumed more than 100 acres in the area, said Terry Gentry, Buncombe County assistant fire marshall.

Emergency crews are also still working to put out a fire in Rutherford County that has already burned more than 300 acres, emergency officials said.

Crews have worked to contain about 30 percent of the fire and hope that the rest will be under control by the end of the day.

No buildings or residential homes are in danger, Gentry said.

"They’ve got control over it, but it’s not fully contained yet," said Sgt. Forrest Hollifield with the Rutherford County Emergency Communications.

GOP Delegate Counts and Options

Here is an update on the GOP Delegate count, and what it means for the party convention this fall:

1. 714/720 John McCain 60.7%
2. 286/279 Mitt Romney 24%
3. 217/197 M. Huckabee 18.2%
4. 16 Ron Paul 1.3%

The first number is the CNN reckoning, and the second from Real Clear Politics. The number needed for the nomination is 1,191 delegates.

Okay, let's flip the tally to reflect the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination on the first ballot, and agian the first number is from CNN, the second from RCP:

1. 477/471 John McCain
2. 905/912 Mitt Romney
3. 974/994 Mike Huckabee
4. 1175/1177 Ron Paul

THE SITUATION

Going forward, there are about 160-200 delegates to be awarded through the end of February, and another 300 or so in March, and 74 in April.

This means that by the end of April, McCain will very likely have enough delegates to take him to the very edge of being put over the top if Huckles stays in, and perhaps sometime in March, sooner if he comes to his senses and drops out. (265 delegates will awarded on March 4th alone).

I am really so not looking forward to McCain in the White House. As bad as he is, he will only be marginally better than his Democrat Opponent, who ever it turns out to be. The thing I see the most important about the elections this fall is to get conservatives elected in the House and Senate so that they can hold the line against who ever gets the win in November.

Fringe candidate Ron Paul (R-TX14) is scaling back his 2008 Presidential Sign-Waves and Overpasses Tour in favor of not losing his Congressional seat.

His challengers are Andy Mann and Chris Peden. I will be providing some information on both of the campaigns with the goal of identifying a candidate that Republicans tired of Ron Paul can support...since Ron Paul is getting funds from across the nation to support his re-election bid, it is only fair that we return the favor.

I think the only proper name for such a project would be: Operation Blowback: Texas Style! I am sure his supporters can appreciate the irony of that title...

Singing Through The Qassams

Here is more on how the Israelis are coping with the deadly rain of Qassams (or Kassams, if you prefer) on Israeli civilians from the Gaza Strip. First, here is a video of children singing their way through the attacks, probably much like some English children did though the Blitz when the Germans were bombing London during World War II:



The next item deals with two children who were wounded by a Qassam rocket fired into their town by Paleostinians:

Anger boiled over in Sderot on Saturday night as residents took to the streets, demanding that the government take stronger steps against the rocket fire from Gaza following a Kassam strike that shattered one local family's Shabbat.

Two brothers from Sderot, aged eight and 19, were seriously wounded and two other members of their family were also hospitalized when a rocket fired from northern Gaza - one of almost four dozen launched this weekend - struck two meters from where the boys were standing.

Eyewitnesses said the brothers were walking when the first rocket slammed into the ground two meters from eight-year-old Osher Twito and his 19-year-old brother, Rami.

Some at the scene said that the Color Red warning siren sounded only after the first rocket had already struck. One man said that he and his friends ran to the attack site and saw the boys lying on the ground and bleeding, with Osher screaming: "Save me, save me!"

Magen David Adom teams rushed Rami and Osher to Ashkelon's Barzilai Hospital, where the 19-year-old's condition was upgraded to moderate while doctors operated to save the life of the younger boy, who suffered severe shrapnel wounds to both of his legs.

The brothers' mother and 15-year-old brother were also hospitalized at Barzilai, where they were treated for shock.

Five rockets were fired during the barrage; three - including the one that hit near the Twito family - struck the western Negev town.

And, lastly, an UAV captured footage of 2 IDF Officers and two Palestinian Terrorists engaged in hand-to-hand combat. Needless to say the Palestinian Terrorists are killed:

How much of this gets reported in the Legacy Media? Very little. Why would the Legacy Media not report this? The seem to report every terrorist killed by Israel, and refuse to call them terrorists, merely militants. I'll try to remember that the next time they refer to some lefty protesters or Black Panthers as militants...knowing that the two are equivalent in their lexicon.



And now, we find out that part of Israel's odd reticence to deal with the terrorists in Gaza and the 2006 Lebanon War, and the subsequent coverup, were due to an inept government bureaucracy wishing to maintain its hold on power. They were afraid that Bibi Netanyahu would have been elected if the full extent of their incompetence were widely known.
I am worried about how well Israel will be able to defend itself because we may be electing someone (Barack Obama) who may be anti-Israel in November. Then, there is the Calypso Louis factor, and the under-reporting of that Obama has embraced the idea of capitulating to Islam.

Given this, if Obama became the Democrat nominee, I'd have to fight against for those concerns alone.

1,700 state of Virginia adults were interviewed 02/07/08 and 02/08/08. Of them, 1,470 were registered to vote. Of them, 382 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 02/12/08 Virginia Republican Primary. All interviews for this survey conducted after Romney withdrew, and after both local and national evening newscasts aired on 02/07/08. Results from partial sample conducted 02/06/08, before Romney withdrew, are available here.

In the 18 to 34 year-old category...interesting to marketing types, since most of today's advertising seems to be directed at this group, McCain had 50% support, Huckabee had 28% support, and Ron Paul had 14% support (his highest demographic).

Also interesting to note from the survey conducted immediately before Mitt Romney withdrew, McCain had 45% Romney had 22%, Huckabee had 20%, and Ron Paul had 11%. All gained when Romney withdrew except Paul, who lost 2 out of 11 likely voters.

The most important thing the withdrawal of Governor Romney did was to allow McCain to begin raising money for the General Election by giving him a lock on the GOP Nomination. There will be no brokered convention for the Pauleroids to disrupt.

The party will line up behind McCain, albeit some of us under protest. We will be grownups about it, and look to the alternative party, and shudder. We see in Hillary everything we despise about government, and those who 'know better' than us about what is good for us. We look upon Obama and see a foreshadowing of the anti-Christ. He is pleasant to the eyes and ears. He speaks of hope, and brings with him the force of government to control every aspect of our lives.

We know where our duty is, and we will do it. But never forget (this is directed at the RINOs) we have your number, and we will be ready to pick up the pieces when you fail at imitating the Democrats. 2012 is not really that far away.

Also interesting in the report are some figures from the Rasmussen Markets giving Obama a 57.5% chance of winning the primary, and Clinton a 42.1% chance. The speculation on the Veep selection in the GOP has Huckabee at 26.0% and Tim Pawlenty at 16.5%. The Dem Race is wide open, and the Veep numbers have Obama at 15.0% and Al Gore at 11.7%.

I think it is a little too soon to speculate on the Dem side, and I think McCain is going to provide a surprise for his choice of Veep, at least from this point in time it will be.

Also interesting to report...I have already received a phone call asking me to donate to the McCain Campaign. I told the nice young lady that Senator McCain was going to have to provide some proof to me that he will govern as a Conservative, and not as a maverick. I think the poor girl had been told something similar all morning...she said that I would come to my senses before November.

Wow! Doesn't sound like the McCain people believe they need conservatives to win, does it? We'll have to see how this plays out.

22 Kassam rockets strike Negev, Sderot in Israel

Israel is still under attack from Islamists:



The barrage of Kassam rockets on the western Negev continued on Friday, with Palestinian gunmen claiming responsibility for eight out of the 22 rockets which have hit Israel since early morning.

The Salah-a-Din faction, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, claimed responsibility for three Kassam rockets, and the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the rest.

Israeli security forces have reported at least 22 rocket strikes on Friday, with at least 12 landing in Sderot, five landing south of Ashkelon, and one striking a green house in the western Negev.

My heart goes out to the Israeli people. We face the same enemy as Israel does, and they would attack us in the same manner if they could.

Flight 93 Blogburst: Will There Be Congressional Investigations?

Pennsylvania is on fire. Tom Burnett’s color advertisement in the Somerset Daily American, asking the people of Somerset to protest the crescent memorial to Flight 93, raised a great deal of awareness. At least four television stations covered the controversy, and there were two news stories in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review alone.

Those who went on to read Alec Rawls’ more detailed advertisement (exposing the fraudulent Park Service investigation of the giant Mecca-oriented crescent) are burning mad, and are taking up Tom Sr.’s call for state and Congressional investigations. Word is that two Pennsylvania state representatives, one Democrat and one Republican, are hot enough to co-sponsor a resolution initiating a state investigation.

Archbishop of Canterbury: Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable'

The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK "seems unavoidable".

Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4's World at One that the UK has to "face up to the fact" that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.

Dr Williams argues that adopting parts of Islamic Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion.

For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.

He says Muslims should not have to choose between "the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty".

I have updated my National page at West Carolina Report, and will start on the others when I get to the office this morning, I overslept, and didn't get up until 4.30 this morning. Michael Reagan was on a roll last night, and I couldn't stop listening.

To sum up the info over there, Hillary has written her campaign a $5 million check, the Democrat Party Elites prepare to broker the convention, and tell Joe Lieberman that he is no lobger a super delegate. (Can you say...the fix is in?)

And the Liberal and Moderate Republicans basically tell the Conservative Republicans to shut up.

McCain receives an endorsement from a pro-choice (pro-murder) Republican group, and Illegals march on the left coast for their right to have driver's licenses...don't believe me? I have the video over there.

While there were competing causes for the climatic shift—including the Black Death’s depopulation of tree-cutting Europeans and, more substantially, increased volcanic activity spewing ash into the atmosphere—the sun’s lethargy likely had something to do with it.

In order to build more accurate computer models, scientists need to understand both anthropogenic factors and the link between the sun and our planet, Tapping says. What the heck is up with this? If I didn't subscribe to all the RSS Feeds from the AC-T, I would have never seen this:

At the beginning of every year both the Democratic and Republican parties schedule retreats for their members to discuss policy ideas and lay out plans for the year ahead. The retreats are scheduled for back-to-back weeks in January and mean the House is only in session for a short legislative week. The Republicans held their conference last week, but the House still considered several important pieces of legislation.

The most important legislation considered last week was the motion to override the President’s veto of the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007, H.R. 3963.

H.R. 3963 had been crafted as compromise legislation to address many of the concerns that House Republicans had expressed during the debate of the previous SCHIP legislation, which President Bush had also vetoed.

It is unacceptable and immoral that the greatest nation on the Earth has over 9 million children living without the health care they need. While the motion to override the President’s veto did not pass, ensuring that every American child is able to receive health care is an issue we will continue to fight for in this Congress.

As we continue that fight, we are also working to ensure that our Nation’s economic arteries, our highways, are properly maintained. After witnessing the tragedy of the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis, we all understand how far some of our infrastructure maintenance has fallen. Therefore, last week the House considered and passed H.R. 409, a bill to establish a national tunnel inspection standard for the proper safety inspection and evaluation of all highway tunnels.

I believe that Conservatives should consider their options at this point due to betrayal within the National GOP. Perhaps Republicans should consider calling their county, state, and national party Headquarters, and ask if conservatives are still welcome in the party.

We either stay and fight, or find another home, and begin the generation-long task of building another national party to, I hope, replace the Republican Party.

I am always interested in how each candidate does in their home state, and all but Ron Paul had their home state yesterday:

The Democrats:

Hillary Clinton is a special case. She was born and raised in Illionios, spent the middle part of her life in Arkansas, and moved to New York just in time to run for Senator to prepare for her Presidential bid. So, I'll count New York as her putative home, but list the results from the other states for fun:


The first number is percentage voting for, the second percentage voting for someone else.
Clinton

• Illinios 33% to 63%
  

Obama (Illinios) 61% to 35 %


The Republicans


McCain (Arizona) 47% to 50%

Be aware that the Democrats are in a two-way race, while the Republicans are in a four-way race. Take from the figures what you will.

My take on the GOP Race is that the top two candidates have high negatives, with HUckabee playing kingmaker. I also find it odd that the Ron Paul Supporters in West Virginia went to Huckabee in an effort that helped McCain (the most pro-war candidate) widen his lead over Romney, and perhaps helped Huckabee gain points for Veep. Huckabee is the least libertarian of the GOP field.

NASA To Go For Six Shuttle Launches This Year

05/02/2008 13:45 WASHINGTON, February 5 (RIA Novosti) - NASA plans to carry out up to six space shuttle launches in 2008, including a flight to service the Hubble Space Telescope, a space agency official has said.

NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale said the agency is also making progress in developing the Orion spacecraft and Ares launch vehicles to replace the aging shuttle fleet and prepare for journeys to the moon and beyond.

NASA also announced a $17.6 billion budget for the fiscal year 2009 to continue exploring the Solar System, as well as building the International Space Station, studying Earth from space and conducting aeronautics research.

The agency said its budget included, "$5.78 billion for the space shuttle and space station programs, $4.44 billion for science, $3.5 billion for development of new manned spacecraft systems and $447 million for aeronautics research."

Dale said NASA has 55 scientific research missions currently in space, about half involving international partnerships, with 15 additional missions scheduled for launch by the end of 2009.

"In Earth science, NASA's investments in measuring the forces and effects of climate change are allowing policymakers and the public to better understand its implications to our home planet," she said.

NASA will dedicate $910 million during the next five years to develop new missions to add to its Earth-observing fleet of spacecraft.

The official said that as the International Space Station nears completion, the NASA budget provides funding to help spur development of commercial space transportation services to send cargo and possibly crews to the station after the shuttles is withdrawn from service in 2010. Without commercial providers, the United States will depend on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft to carry astronauts between Earth and the space station.

"While I do not like the idea that the United States may have no option other than to purchase crew transport services from Russia ... I am glad that the Russians are our partners and have such capabilities," Dale said.

Progressives at San Jose State U Ban Blood Drives; Decry HIV Positive Donor Discrimination

Blood is a constant need for those with medical emergencies or chronic problems, and the only way to get blood to those who need it is for people to donate their blood.

However, in order to ensure the safety of those who receive blood, there are a number of restrictions on those whose donations are accepted. Conditions that make blood medically useless include Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease, leukemia, lymphoma, hepatitis, AIDS, infections, malaria, syphilis, gonorrhea, sickle cells, and tuberculosis. To give a person blood from someone who has one of these conditions could be life threatening, and so the FDA requires that organizations take a list of precautions to prevent such diseases from getting into the blood system.

Progressives at San Jose State University are banning blood drives anyway, though. They have decided that the anti-HIV precautions are unacceptable, and so would rather not give blood at all, in order to attempt to bully the FDA into compromising its scientifically-sound, safety-first blood donation protocols.

I have given blood since high school, both in regular blood drives, and for friends who were going into surgery who didn't trust the blood supply.

And here is a bit of the insanity behind the blood drive ban by the idiot progressives at San Jose:

They've lobbied for years for officials to relax the restriction on blood donation to one year after the latest sexual activity, but to no avail.

Gay rights groups on several college campuses, including Stanford's, have held protests on the issue in recent years. At San Jose State, it was an employee's complaint last year that prompted Kassing's office to investigate whether the rule made blood drives discriminatory.

They decided it did, since gay men were being treated differently than other groups of people with similar risk factors.

This is idiocy of the highest order! Being a progressive means that if you are standing on your head, everyone else is upside down, and reality must conform to your world view.


There are good reasons to discriminate against a person, and bad reasons to discriminate against a person.

Perhaps they (the idiot progressives) are not aware of some of the definitions of discriminate:

• recognize or perceive the difference
• marked by the ability to see or make fine distinctions; "discriminate judgments"; "discriminate people"
• treat differently on the basis of sex or race
• distinguish; "I could not discriminate the different tastes in this complicated dish"
• noting distinctions with nicety; "a discriminating interior designer"; "a nice sense of color"; "a nice point in the argument"

Please note that there is only one bad definition, and several good definitions...and keeping a group of people who engage, or have engaged, in risky behavior from contributing to the blood supply is a good type of discrimination.

I was prevented from donating blood for a period of one year after returning from Saudi Arabia...and I did not cry "foul" or accuse the Red Cross of discrimination. This was standard procedure, even though the most dangerous activity I had engaged in was providing security over watch for people distributing Bibles to the underground churches in that Islamic country.

Perhaps what the lady needs to do is buy a good guide to the types of clouds, or visit some cloud photo galleries, or science sites. I have loved the sky, and taking photos of clouds for a long time. I'll see if I have any with me on one of my portable hard drives, or go out and take some today...if it is anything but overcast.

What people are calling chemtrails is nothing more than an artificial cirrus cloud created by water vapor freezing at high altitudes.

Starting with the 747 in 1970, jetliners began to employ a very different kind of jet engine. The first generation of jets -- the ones that produced the thin, narrow contrails we used to see -- employed what is called a turbojet (or "pure jet") engine. These are much narrower engines than you usually see today. All of the air that a turbojet encounters goes inside the engine, where it is compressed, injected with fuel and ejected out the rear.
But the 747 pioneered a radical new design, called a turbofan (or "high-bypass") engine. Just about anything you are likely to get on these days uses these high-bypass engines. They are called high-bypass because they are much wider than an old turbojet. That is because most of the air that enormous fan takes in does not go into the engine at all, but rather around the outside of it. It is, essentially, a huge propeller powered by the ten or twenty percent of the total airflow that actually enters the engine and drives the turbine shaft as it exits under very high pressure.

If you happen to be one of those people who, like me, flatten their face against the window for five hours rather than reading CROSSFIRE on the way home for Thanksgiving, you will often see these jets producing these contrails with your own eyes. Those jets are not filled with poison chemicals or equipped with spraying nozzles, but rather are filled with other people watching your jet produce the same hi-bypass contrails.

So either that explains it, or the whole thing is a high altitude, crop-dusting scheme designed to chemically poison a pernicious pest, namely, you and me. Now you tell me which one seems a little more likely to you, and I will in return advise you whether or not you need to seek professional psychiatric help.

America Has a Future – If We Earn It.

American has just completed one of the longest running periods of economic expansion in the history of the world. Prosperity, by almost every measure available, has spread wider and deeper than anyone would have predicted in a new century dominated by equally unprecedented acts of terror. Yet, in spite of the statistics and words of celebration offered by politicians and captains of the business world, the average person continues to worry about tomorrow.

There are reasons for fear. During this same period of extraordinary growth, we went from being a model of capital creation and industry to a nation that borrows to buy what others now build. The value of one of our best commodities – the dollar – has plummeted against other currencies. Faith in the integrity and competency of our leadership and economic system has been harmed at home and abroad. Those of us staring at abandoned manufacturing facilities and the price of imported gas are understandably more cynical than a Wall Street flush with high stock prices and dollars from abroad. No matter how much the new economy is touted, we know we may be losing the battle for tomorrow.

America is a developed nation. That development means we are blessed with far more days of comfort than those in undeveloped countries. That development also means that we reaching the end point of traditional economic ascendance through building and manufacturing. We have reached a time where emerging countries like China and Korea can make things cheap and as fast and well as we do.

God has created a world of constant motion. No person, community, country, or culture holds unique rights to prosperity. The tides of success are constantly changing, and only through courage, creativity, and other skills can a country reach and sustain prosperity. Within this reality, the average American finds a common sense basis for fear. We feel our cultural erosion toward the hollow and temporary securities of materialism, personal pleasure, and abandoned values. The mumbling majority knows that our greatest enemy is not found across the oceans or outside our borders, but here at home.

The success and dedication of previous American generations have created an economic momentum that will carry us forward for some time. Like an out of gas car that has built enough speed to coast, we have a ways to go before we use up our momentum. Timely actions to renew our sense of purpose will determine if those who come later have a fair crack at the American dream.

America can best begin reaching for the future with the premise that no country on earth – including those successfully competing for our jobs – is our enemy. Certainly, there are governments, groups, and individuals that wish us harm, but we are in this world together and it behooves America to reach out with a handshake versus a fist and an authentic desire to exchange value versus bullets.

Knowing that there are those who do wish us harm – it also makes sense to stand firm with America’s interests, keep our military strong, and remain alert to predatory forces that have always been and will be an obstacle to that which is right and just. America must remain smart and vigilant without becoming closed and cynical.

The future of America, quite simply, rests on three words – liberty, responsibility, and opportunity. These words form the foundation of an American Success Equation that has grounded an exceptional history of success. No matter how strong other emerging countries may become through the temporary powers of cheap labor and natural resources, the commodities of safety, maturity, wisdom, values, and freedom will always be precious in a fallen world.

America has a future, but only if we earn it by continuing to serve as a beacon for that which is noble, higher, and extraordinary in man. In an earlier time of trial, Franklin Roosevelt once described America as “the arsenal of democracy”. The world today needs an arsenal truth and freedom just as surely.

A positive future for America will have us looking into the eyes of our children and grandchildren with a pledge. “I will not abandon you – I will not look away from your needs to my own – mine will not be the first generation to extinguish the American Dream that has served so long as a light to a grieving world.” In so doing we will produce a commodity for which there will be limitless demand and very little competition.

Perdue, Moore used offices for campaigns

The state auditor has found that Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and State Treasurer Richard Moore -- both Democratic candidates for governor -- used their state offices to campaign.In a news release and report today, State Auditor Les Merritt, a Republican, said that state policy allows public employees to make reasonable personal use of state-provided Internet access. However, he found activity in both offices that rose above reasonable personal use to a level of active participation in political campaigns."Let's remember that when state resources and personnel are used for political campaigning, it's the taxpayers that get stuck with the bill," Merritt said.The audit found "significant" evidence of campaigning within the treasurer's office. It found some evidence of campaign activity in Perdue's office and also the potential for abuse of state resources.

Foes of illegal immigration in Arizona say McCain is not a true conservative and conservative radio hosts rail against McCain and the early primary states. A new commercial calls McCain 'Surprisingly Liberal,' and the Los Angeles Times, in a move that may help Romney, endorses McCain. McCain has been getting a lot of liberal newspaper endorsements lately, implying that the fix is in.

Conservative hero Rick Santorum is endorsing Romney, and Michael Reagan says, "John McCain hates me." And Andrew McCarthy joins the Romney Campaign.

McCain continues making false accusations about Romney being wobbly on Iraq, and Redstate has a Super Tuesday Preview, and the New Media Journal notes that McCain has changed his story on the Bush tax cuts, saying he was for them before he was against them, and would now make them permanent.

David Limbaugh calls McCain the anti-conservative and Dan Riehl agrees with Ann Coulter about voting against McCain, and Tapscott reminds us that McCain almost became a Democrat, but Jeffords beat him to the punch. Let that sink in for a moment, the man was so mad about being rejected by the party for President, he almost became a Democrat. What an eogmaniac! No wonder Kerry considered him for his Veep. If that doesn't convince my Republican readers to be wary of this man, there is nothing more I can say that will change their mind.

That's okay. I'll be spending this weekend (and Monday) making calls for Romney to the Super Tuesday states, helping the last conservative standing reach a few more voters.

al-Qaeda Is An Equal Opportunity Employer

Al Qaeda in Iraq has pulled off two mass-casualty terror bombings in markets in Baghdad. The attacks, which were carried out by mentally impaired women, claimed the lives of at least 73 Iraqi civilians and wounded more than 167. This is not the first time al Qaeda has used mentally and physically handicapped women and children in bombings, as has been reported.

The first attack occurred at the popular Ghazl pet market, where thousands of Baghdadis flock to on Fridays. The bombing killed 46 civilians and wounded more than 100, The Associated Press reported. The second attack occurred just twenty minutes later in a Shia market in southeastern Baghdad. Police reported 27 Iraqi civilians were killed and 67 wounded.

The attacks in Baghdad were not suicide bombings as both women used by al Qaeda were mentally disabled and the vests were detonated remotely, according to General Qasim Atta. "Atta said the women were strapped with dynamite and ball bearings, citing members of the bomb squad," CNN reported. "The explosives were detonated via cell phone." The women were believed to have had Downs Syndrome.

The Associated Press reported al Qaeda is "using new tactics." But al Qaeda's usage of the handicapped women and children to conduct attacks can be traced back as early as the January 2005 election. Al Qaeda pressed a child with Down’s Syndrome to attack a polling station during the January 2005 parliamentary elections.

Ashvegas Jumps Ship From AC-T To Mtn Xpress

ASHEVILLE - Long-time Asheville Citizen-Times reporter and editor Jason Sandford announced today that he has resigned his job at the daily newspaper and will take his talents to the weekly Mountain Xpress in a move that has media mavens buzzing.

"I had a great run at the Citizen-Times and have many friends there. I'll miss them," Sandford said. "It was just time for me to move on, and Mountain Xpress offered me a great opportunity I just couldn't pass up."

"I also didn't want to be the last rat off a sinking ship," joked Sandford, who noted the massive changes rocking the beleaguered newspaper industry as it struggles to come to grips with the digital age of information delivery. He also noted C-T parent company Gannett's report today that fourth-quarter earnings were down a whopping 31 percent.

Remember The Keating Five?

For too long, McCain has been given a free pass by the media, which promotes campaign-finance reform to silence other voices, and by his Republican colleagues, who are concerned about alienating McCain given the GOP's tenuous majority in the Senate.

In John McCain's America, any politician who accepts a large contribution or gift from a donor, and then takes steps consistent with the donor's interests — even though there is no legal quid pro quo — is corrupt. Well, then, by his own standard, McCain is corrupt.

McCain was one of the so-called "Keating Five" senators. He was investigated by the Senate Select Committee on Ethics in 1991 regarding the acceptance of favors from Lincoln Savings & Loan Association (Lincoln) and its owner, Charles H. Keating, Jr. Simply put, the issue was whether McCain and the other senators used their official positions to attempt to pressure Federal Home Loan Bank Board officials to go easy on the troubled institution. Eventually Lincoln went bust, costing depositors and taxpayers millions.

In its final report (November 20, 1991), here is what the Senate Select Committee on Ethics concluded about McCain's conduct:

"Mr. Keating, his associates, and his friends contributed $56,000 for Senator McCain's two House races in 1982 and 1984, and $54,000 for his 1986 Senate race. Mr. Keating also provided his corporate plane and/or arranged for payment for the use of commercial or private aircraft on several occasions for travel by Senator McCain and his family, for which Senator McCain ultimately provided reimbursement when called upon to do so. Mr. Keating also allowed Senator McCain and his family to vacation with Mr. Keating and his family, at a home provided by Mr. Keating in the Bahamas, in each of the calendar years 1983 through 1986.

"…[F]rom 1984 to 1987, Senator McCain took actions on Mr. Keating's behalf or at his request. The Committee finds that Senator McCain had a basis for each of these actions independent of the contributions and benefits he received from Mr. Keating, his associates and friends.

"Based on the evidence available to it, the Committee has given consideration to Senator McCain's actions on behalf of Lincoln. The Committee concludes that, given the personal benefits and campaign contributions he had received from Mr. Keating, Senator McCain exercised poor judgment in intervening with the regulators without first inquiring as to the Bank Board's position in the case in a more routine manner. The Committee concludes that Senator McCain's actions were not improper nor attended with gross negligence and did not reach the level of requiring institutional action against him. The Committee finds that Senator McCain took no further action after the April 9, 1987 meeting when he learned of a criminal referral.

Our headquarters has been flooded with calls and emails from new supporters who offer to do anything they can to help Mitt secure the Republican nomination, beat the Democrats in November, and become our next president.

Many of them ask, “What can I do?” Well, I’m here to tell you that the next 5 days will be a flurry of activity at Romney HQ here in Boston and around the country. And we need your help to call voters in the February 5th, Super Tuesday states.

Thousands of new contributors have flooded to the web to pledge their support in the form of a financial contribution.

All of this demonstrates the widespread support for Governor Romney and shows he’s the candidate who can unite the Republican Party and our nation.

Michael Yon Back in Iraq

Michael Yon, Citizen Blogger, is back in Iraq:



I landed in Baghdad yesterday, 30 January 2008, on a Japanese Air Force flight from Kuwait. I immediately embedded with an American infantry battalion called the 1-4 Cavalry. After 1-4 CAV soldiers picked me up at the airport, I pulled on heavy body armor and we went into a mission that lasted into the early evening. No drama this time. I didn’t even hear about any action over the radio.


The 1-4 CAV’s area of operation (AO) in South Baghdad is probably safer than the “Green Zone.” We walked around and talked with Iraqis for hours. I had some interesting conversations about tribal allegiances and other social power structures. Here in Iraq, the tribes are very strong, and I have been working to build a greater understanding of how tribal affiliations influence people.
