Today in the Opinion Journal, former KGB intelligence officer Ion Mihai Pacepa explained the propaganda tactics of the communists during the Cold War.
Here is a bit of what Pacepa had to say about the Soviet's propaganda campaign in the West:
During the Vietnam War we spread vitriolic stories around the world, pretending that America's presidents sent Genghis Khan-style barbarian soldiers to Vietnam who raped at random, taped electrical wires to human genitals, cut off limbs, blew up bodies and razed entire villages. Those weren't facts. They were our tales, but some seven million Americans ended up being convinced their own president, not communism, was the enemy. As Yuri Andropov, who conceived this dezinformatsiya war against the U.S., used to tell me, people are more willing to believe smut than holiness.Does that remind you of anyone?
Here are the words of future democratic Senator John F. Kerry in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971:
They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam...John F. Kerry- Useful Idiot.

Why is it that the left so easily falls in line with our enemies?
The rank and file may be useful idiots, or at least sdound like it, but I believe the thinkers on the left subscribe to Revolutionary Defeatism.
I have a whole section of my right hand sidebar called "Read These Posts" that I should probably rename "Understanding Leftism" because it contains some brilliant essays on the Socialists (i.e. Communists) that have been hiding out in the Democrat Party for some time now.
Their political war with Western Civilization is not over, and we must remain ever vigilant to slow their long march through our institutions. It is my hope that we can stop it, and eventually reverse it.
That process requires waking people up to what is happening. Perhaps that is why they hate Rush Limbaugh (and the medium he sired--Talk Radio), the Fox News Channel, and the Right-Side of the Blogosphere. Look for them to try to shut all three down because their totalitarian ideology will brook no comeptition.
I leave you with this:
"They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the entire world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one subordinate clerk in a bureau, what an alluring utopia! What a noble cause to fight for!"
----Ludwig von Mises, in "Bureaucracy." p 125
