Macon County Emergency Management has sent out a press release regarding the structure fire that claimed one life Saturday evening, but it does not tell us any more than we knew Saturday night.

The Macon County Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with the Franklin Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause and origin of a residential structure fire that occurred Saturday evening. Firefighting crews responded to 19 Moore St. in Franklin and located one victim inside the residence. The identity of the victim will be released pending autopsy results. According to Fire Marshal Jimmy Teem “We know where the fire started but we will continue to investigate until we know what started it”. Five departments responded to the scene: Franklin, Clarks Chapel, Cullasaja, West Macon, and Cowee.
