Structure Fire on Moore Street

At about 7:30 pm this evening, Franklin Fire Department was dispatched to report of a structure fire on Moore Street with people still in the residence. Several Franklin Police Officers arrived on scene first and reported the structure fully involved and one person still in a bedroom at the rear of the building. They also reported a downed power line on the residence that was arcing and Duke Energy was notified to respond to the fire.

Everyone but one person was able to escape the fire and one person did not. The name of the victim is being withheld until. the family can be notified.

Additional assistance was provided by Macon County EMS, Cullasaja, Clarks CHapel, Cowee and West Macon Fire Departments. Franklin Police assisted the family and along with the Macon County Sheriffs Office, provided traffic control.

The Franklin Police Department and NC SBI are investigating the fire.


If a fund is set up for the family, Macon Media will pass along the information so members of the public can contribute.
