SpaceX Launches Dragon Test Flight





News Brief

The United States is one step closer to having the ability to launch manned missions from our soil for the first time since 2011 when the space shuttle program ended. SpaceX launched an unmanned Dragon capsule that will dock at the International Space Station and then splash down in the Atlantic Ocean later this week.

Outlook

High pressure will build across the region today and move east before an area of low pressure and a strong cold front crosses the area late Sunday into Monday. Dry high pressure and cold temperatures will return over the forecast area Monday and persist through the middle of next week, during which dangerously cold wind chills are expected.

Weather Hazards

Hazardous weather is not expected today. Heavy rain is expected Sunday and dangerously cold conditions next week.

A strong cold front will likely bring periods of moderate to heavy rain will fall across the region beginning Sunday morning and continuing through the evening. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are also possible during the afternoon and evening hours. Ponding of water in urban areas is possible and some area streams may reach or exceed bankfull levels.

Advisory level northwest winds are possible especially across higher elevations sometime late Tuesday into Wednesday behind a secondary cold front. The combination of gusty winds and unseasonable cold conditions may support dangerously cold wind chills.
