SpaceX to Test In-Flight Abort System this Morning

The test was delayed from yesterday and may take place at, or shortly after, 8am this morning.

SpaceX, a private space launch company, will be testing its in-flight abort system for its Dragon space capsule as part of the procedure to gain acceptance for the craft as approved for manned missions to space. If the test is successful, SpaceX could launch manned missions to the International Space Station as early as March. The test is expected to take place soon after 8am.

Marcus House, a citizen journalist focusing on space and technology, describes the test and why it is important for both SpaceX and NASA:

Also, winds will become quite strong and gusty above 3500 feet with gusts around 35 mph likely. With saturated soils...these winds could topple isolated weak and dead trees and lead to widely scattered power outages.
