HAZARDOUS WEATHER

...INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY...

Dead brush and leaf litter, which can serve as fuels for wildfires, have steadily dried out over the past few days given a lack of rainfall and persistent warm, dry air over the region. Breezy winds will return again this afternoon and evening but will be lighter compared to what we saw Thursday. Relative humidity values will dip to 30% or less this afternoon. The combination of dry fuels and gusty winds will lead to an increased danger of wildfires in the region.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.

Otto Fire and Rescue Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony at New Fire Station

Members of the Otto community and firefighters gathered at the location of the new fire station for Otto Fire and Rescue on Monday, February 24, 2025, to hold a groundbreaking ceremony. Fire Chief Kevin Fountain delivered remarks on the history of the fire department and the journey they took to get to this point. He mentioned that the department would be making space for a brick walkway so members of the community could memorialize loved ones. Learn more about that at Brickmarkers. [LINK]
