HAZARDOUS WEATHER
While precipitation is most likely to begin as rain after daybreak today, higher elevations in the southwestern North Carolina mountains may see precipitation begin as freezing rain after midnight tonight. Some sleet may mix in as well. If freezing rain does develop, a very thin glaze of ice could develop on elevated surfaces such as bridges and decks, which could cause minor travel difficulties Tuesday morning.
Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected to impact the region from this evening through Thursday morning. A period of heavy rainfall is likely tonight, with isolated nuisance flooding possible. Another round of heavy rainfall is possible Wednesday evening into Thursday morning as a slow-moving cold front enters the area. Soils could become saturated in some areas by the earlier round of rainfall, and may result in another threat of nuisance to minor stream flooding.
