Ron Paul Stealth Candidates Throw Temper Tantrum

Ron Paul Supporters are often like little children getting mad and pitching a temper tantrum. The video below shows them in action.

And they wonder why they can never get respect in the party? They show up once every two or four years and expect us to cater to their every desire and whim.

I'll have respect for them when they show up at local party and candidate fund raisers, when they show up to help set up for events, to place signs for party candidates.

I'll have respect for them when they show up at local party precinct meetings or when they show up to help build precinct walking maps, man the phones for local candidates, go knock on doors or take people to go vote.

Think this is a new phenomenon?

It is not. It is just a continuation of an effort by Paulbearers to gain power in the party, and if successful, the nation using nonviolent strong-arm tactics that subvert the results of the party primaries. If they want delegates, let them get them through legitimate means during the primary...by getting people to agree with them and show up and cast ballots. They don't do this because they know they can NEVER achieve power without having to resort to subversive tactics that reveals more about them than they realize. The Founding Fathers would recoil in horror at their tactics.

Congressman Shuler "Town Hall" on WWNC-AM

In another effort to avoid face to face contact with constituents, Congressman Heath Shuler appeared on the radio show where he felt most safe from the mob, Take A Stand, hosted by Matt Mittan.

I should have known they'd pull something like this, and I should be kicked for trusting them to leave it up and not recording the video myself. I thought the video was very telling, especially when Shuler made faces at some of the calls or when he laughed at the caller who suggested that people don't trust their government.

I think that this is part of a pattern with the Congressman. He avoided numerous opportunities to have a face to face debate with his previous opponent, even avoiding facing myself [on Sept 2, 2008] and Richard Bernier [on Sept 4, 2008] to even answer the question of debating Carl Mumpower.

He eventually did debate Mumpower, but only in the studios of WWNC-AM (which most of the Congressional district can't even hear over the air, and with a large number of people on dial up, listening over the Internet is not an option.

Liberaltarianism and Intellectual Dishonesty

Donald, over at American Power, addresses an issue I have blogged about previously here, only his name for the fusion of Progressives and Libertarians (Liberaltarianism) is better than my term, Proggressitarianism.

What Donald does is note the indictment of..." the alliance In "The Luxury of 'Liberaltarianism'," Robert mercilessly pulls the mask off the alliance between leftists and libertarians, which I've long thought has been one of the most intellectually bankrupt and ideologically decrepit marriages in recent political history"

An animating force for the paradigm seems to be the resistance to tradition and universal morality. This can be seen in the excursions on atheism at the blog, where we see commentary suggesting that since there's no possibility for the falsification of God's existence, those of religious faith are essentially "lunatics" for proposing an alternative theory of evolution in Intelligent Design. Or we can see this in the virtually unhinged attacks on neoconservatives and the war in Iraq, where E.D. Kain excoriates the Bush administration for "invading countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan in order to democratize them ..." Never mind that the origins of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq emerged out of vastly different contexts - with varying methodologies of strategic justification - the overall animus toward the forward use of state power places this "libertarian-progressive" agenda firmly in the nihilist camp of the "world peace" Utopians Robert Stacy McCain mentions above.

But what's especially bothersome about these folks is the confused intellectualism on questions of moral right. It's almost stomach-churning to read E.D. Kain's comments on Israel following this week's election: "Israel, once lively with the dream of the original idealists who founded it, has over the years become increasingly militarized, entrenched, and anti-Democratic." This is not much different from the commentary on Israel one finds at the neo-Stalinist Firedoglake. E.D. Kain, of course, has problems with intellectual integrity, as I've already noted, and he joins Mark Thompson in a left-libertarian hall of shame on that score.

It should be no surprise that these folks find inspiration in the ravings of Andrew Sullivan, whose recent libertarian strain led him to suggest that, "Yes, Michael Phelps took a few hits from a bong at a party ... does anyone think that smoking pot would give him an unfair advantage in the pool? Please. When on earth are we going to grow up as a culture?" I guess "growing up" as a culture would mean that the majority of Americans would have to kowtow to the radical libertarian demands for same-sex marriage, which is a big agenda for the "young turks" of the right for whom "the real respectability of a solid argument is preferable to the worthless respectability one gets" by advocating for "more humane" positions on some of the most hot-button social issues of the day.

It has been a while since I've done a blog roundup, and I do not recall doing a conservative one before...so here goes!

Hillbilly White Trash is celebrating his third blogiversary today! Go show him some love in the comments.

The Hendersonville Post has compiled the Google Rankings of various media websites in West Carolina...and crows about Matt Mittan's website having 0 out of 10 while the Hendersonville Post has 4 out of 10 and the Asheville Citizen-Times shares the top spot with 6 out of 10 with the Hendersonville News website.

My Google Ranking here is 5 out of 10, tied with WLOS and Mtn X.

Google Rank is not linear...it is logarithmic, with each increase in rank being by a factor of ten at how important Google Rates each page.

I would caution the author of the Hendersonville Post not to equate Google Ranking with traffic if he had open comments. He does not, so I do it here [link to source for below excerpt]:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. The Wild West has a report on the Luddite Asheville City Council's useless discussions on whether or not to pass a resolution banning the transport of nuclear waste through Asheville. From her apt description...it appears that there were many anti-nuke activists at the meeting. I will see if I can swipe some video from the City Council Website to show the kooks in action since seeing is believing for most people.

Leaf Looking Season Cancelled in WNC Due to Lack of Fuel

**see bottom of post for update**
If you are a tourist looking to come look at the fall colors in western North Carolina, cancel that trip because we are out of Gasoline and Diesel. You might get stranded in the mountains. On my way home from Western Carolina University this evening, every gas station except one was out of Gas save the Enmark in Sylva...but judging by the length of the line...it will be out soon.

I heard on "Take A Stand with Matt Mittan" out of Asheville, that they are having extensive fuel shortages there as well as most areas surrounding Asheville.

The one bright side to this whole thing is that there seem to be a lot less vehicles on the road...except for the one neighbor who has made two trips to town since I got in this evening. I think their SUV runs on water.

This is a map showing the major pipelines in the USA...and nearly all of our fuel in western North Carolina come from the Colonial Plantation Pipeline that zips by us on the way to New Jersey.

I wonder if the people in this region will become converts to "Drill Here, Drill Now" campaign, or suddenly favor building new refineries. It's something to think about.

Governor Easley has noticed that we have no fuel. It is rumored that he asked his advisors what state western North Carolina is in and why we needed his help.

**8.34 PM** Here is what I have found on the local blogs and Websites concerning the fuel shortages in the region:

Mountain Xpress is reporting things should be okay within a week, and has started a twitter so people can report on where they are finding fuel.

Scrutiny Hooligans has a thread about the situation and GreenAsheville has a few pictures and choice words, and AshVegas has many posts on the situation, including one about a rumor that Buncombe County may close schools on Friday and another wondering if a State of Emergency should be declared.

AsheVillein spotted relief coming from Georgia, and the Weaverville Tribune spotted a tanker truck with a line of cars following it on Weaver Blvd.

Asheville, NC –The Spring Into Action Home constructed for Ginger Boyd Phillips who lost her home in the wake of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Ginger also suffered the loss of her parents, grandparents, and 14 year old sister, all victims of a brutal, random murder in Haywood County in 1999. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the home should be completed before Christmas. Brian Anderson, Anderson Family Homes and General Contractor for the volunteer project stated, “ The home is dried in, the insulation and drywall is completed and Mrs. Boyd should be in the home before Christmas.” Hearts With Hands, executive director, Bill Bradley commented, “The construction of the home has taken longer than we anticipated, however, every step has been taken to ensure this home is of top quality construction and is something the Boyd family and all of those who have volunteered their time and money can be proud of.

Press Release-- Illegal Aliens Should Not Be Admitted to State-Supported Community Colleges

RALEIGH --

North Carolina's community college system has ordered the state's 58 campuses to admit illegal immigrants, overturning a policy of letting the heavily enrolled schools set their own rules for handling undocumented applicants.

David Sullivan, the system's top lawyer, dispatched a memo this month telling the community colleges that state regulations require the schools to admit illegal immigrants who meet the schools' basic requirements of being either a high school graduate or an adult in need of skills training.

"That's just wrong," said state Sen. Richard Stevens, a Raleigh Republican and co-chair of the higher education committee. "The law ought to be changed."

Rep. Winkie Wilkins, a Person County Democrat who chairs the House committee on community colleges, said he was "blindsided" by the news.

The state's community colleges focus on training and retraining the work force, usually through skills and trade education. Melinda Wiggins is executive director of Student Action With Farm Workers, which helps children of migrant farm workers get into high school and college. She said barring illegal immigrants from community colleges penalizes youths who were brought to the United States as children.

"North Carolina is their home. It's where they've been raised and lived," Wiggins said.

"By denying them an education, we're really creating an underclass of folks here in the state who cannot contribute to society."

N.C. public schools must accept children of illegal immigrants under federal regulations. The University of North Carolina system admits undocumented applicants, but a bill to provide in-state tuition to some was quickly shot down in 2005.

Local Libertarians Plan to Ride Wave of Ron Paul Popularity: Control of Buncombe GOP

Stop Laughing, because they are apparently serious...unless the joke went over my head.

Occaisional blogger Tim Peck, Carl Milsted, and Buncome County Libertarian Leader Bernard Carmen joined fellow libertarian-leaning Matt Mittan on his show, "Take A Stand", which airs on WWNC-AM 570, and can be heard online.

Okay, stop laughing.

There are so many holes in this that I should probably cut the audio up into tracks, and splice my commentary into the thing as a running commentary aka Mystery Science Theater 3000 style on You Tube. I have taken 10 clips out of the 1st hour of the program with a running time of 20 minutes and a fews seconds without my responses... I'll save that for later (like soooo many other projects).

I'll tell you, dear reader, why this laughable attempt will fail.

First, Carl Milsted starts out saying he is for Ron Paul. Okay, let's examine Ron Paul based on his on website section "Issues":

First Up is his position on Debt and Taxes:

Working Americans like lower taxes. So do I. Lower taxes benefit
all of us, creating jobs and allowing us to make more decisions for ourselves about our lives.

Check #4...Maybe he should join the next administration as Border Czar.

Sounds good to me. Check.

Next is American Independence and Sovereignty:

So called free trade deals and world governmental organizations like the International Criminal Court (ICC), NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA are a threat to our independence as a nation.

Sounds good to me. Check #2.

Next is War and Foreign Policy:

The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more
dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct
enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them.

This is a lie, and a suicidal position to take. Iraq's weapons were moved out while we wasted out time begging the UN for permission to invade, and here is one of many open-source intelligence report about the removal. [PDF of a Symposium]

We not only destroyed the regime of Saddam Hussein, we liberated tens of millions of people formerly living under oppression of a brutal dictator; the same man also responsible for the executions of more than a million of his people, many of whom ended up in mass graves. He was, in fact, tried, convicted, and executed for crimes against humanity involving just one incident in 1982.

We created new recruits for them, to go where? Iraq, and Afghanistan. Get your head out of the sand! The goal of the Salafists has always been world domination by their "Religion of Peace."

Ron Paul's stand on this issue by itself is enough to disqualify him from further consideration. President Bush's position on this issue is one of his saving graces. I thank God that these people are prominent in giving advice to the President in this time of crisis as we face the Third Great Jihad, [Alternate Link].

The very survival of Western Civilization is at stake, and Ron Paul has his head up his, well...you know!

No check...counts as a forfeiture of the game.

Life and Liberty position:

The right of an innocent, unborn child to life is at the heart of the American ideals of liberty. My professional and legislative record demonstrates my strong commitment to this pro-life principle.

Check # 3, were it not for the war, this would cover a multitude of other policy position sins.

Border Security and Immigration Reform:

The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked.


Check #4...perhaps he should consider joining the next administration as Border Czar.

Privacy and Personal Liberty:

The biggest threat to your privacy is the government. We must
drastically limit the ability of government to collect and store data regarding
citizens’ personal matters.

Property Rights and Eminent Domain:

We must stop special interests from violating property rights and literally driving families from their homes, farms and ranches. Today, we face a new threat of widespread eminent domain actions as a result of powerful interests who want to build a NAFTA superhighway through the United States from Mexico to Canada. We also face another danger in regulatory takings: Through excess regulation, governments deprive property owners of significant value and use of their properties — all without paying “just compensation.”

Property rights are the foundation of all rights in a free society. without the right to own a printing press, for example, freedom of the press becomes meaningless. The next president must get federal agencies out of these schemes to deny property owners their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property.

Check #5. Precious Few have this position.

Health Freedom:

Americans are justifiably concerned over the government’s
escalating intervention into their freedom to choose what they eat and how they take care of their health.

Foul Ball. I have problems with his idiotic stand against genetically modified food...what the heck does he think corn is? It started out as a well-endowed seed-bearing grass. And all you druggies...did you know your precious pot plants are genetically modified to produce a high thousands of times more potent than wild pot...known as hemp?
If it weren't for genetically modified foods, pesticides, and fertilizers...billions would starve.

Okay, enough with my analysis of Ron Paul's positions...

Number One...their attacks on Christians and Christianity may be kosher in the city of Asheville, but not in Buncombe County, and most certainly not in the BCGOP. Perhaps they have been living in the bubble that is Asheville, and do not realize the connection between Christianity and Conservatism.

Let me quote for them the first of six principles of Conservatism as espoused by Russell Kirk in "The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Santayana" page 7. I have it in a second edition printed in 1953:

1) Belief that a divine intent rules society as well as conscience, forging an eternal chain of right and duty which links great and obscure, living and dead. Political problems, at bottom, are religious and moral problems. A narrow rationality, what Coleridge calls the Understanding, cannot itself satisfy human needs. "Every Tory is a realist," says Keith Feiling: "he knows that there are great forces in heaven and earth that man's philosophy cannot plumb or fathom. we do wrong to deny it, when we are told that we do not trust human reason: we do not and we may not. Human reason set up a cross on Calvary, human reason set up the cup of hemlock, human reason was canonised (sic) in Notre Dame."

Politics is the art of apprehending and applying the Justice which is above nature.

Local Talk Host Forcibly Removed from Asheville City Council Meeting

My previous post on this subject(mysteriously, or negligently!) disappeared.

So, here goes again:

Background:

The Asheville City Council has been on a tear to change over from non-partisan elections to partisan election. Specifically, Shadow Mayor Brownie Newman has been pimping for this idea.

I have supported it, because I see advantage to the GOP in this situation due to the neo-Stalinists on the City-Council showing their hand too early.

By a vote of 4-3, Asheville City Council last night
voted to give political parties an unfair advantage and special protected access
to the local electoral process. With Councils' vote, the second largest block of
voters in Asheville, people who register as unaffiliated, will have to meet much
more stringent and restrictive standards to get involved in local politics than
those who are Democrats or Republicans. Council members Brownie Newman, Holly
Jones, Robin Cape and Bryan Freeborn not only voted to turn local elections into
partisan competitions, but they also voted to not allow public comment on the
issue last night. That’s at least consistent isn’t it? An interesting note,
there was a majority in support of having public comment until the city attorney
pointed out that having public comment on the issue last night would have
prevented them from enacting the measure in time to effect this years municiple
election. At that point, Bryan Freeborn changed his vote and denied public
comment to the chamber full of residents waiting to speak by a vote of 4-3.
Bryan Freeborn, by the way, wasn't even elected to City Council - he was
appointed... Interestingly enough - by the very people he voted with to restrict
the election process.After the vote to restrict public comment, the Council
quickly moved to pass the partisan election measure.

Tonight - - we want to "light up the sky" over Asheville...by asking everyone who cannot attend to join those at the vigil by stepping out on their porch, sidewalk, or deck with a flashlight to demonstrate their concern

Bringing our community together to shine a light on the harms of hard drugs…

Where: City-County Plaza (you bring a flashlight and we’ll bring the red cellophane covers)

When: Thursday evening, February 22, 2007, rain, snow or shine from 6:30-7:15 pm

Who: Anyone who has lost a family member to drugs, been personally affected by drugs, is

living near drug activity, or who cares about the harms.

Why: To highlight the harms of hard drugs, illuminate causes, and call the public and city leaders to action in addressing our open air drug market.

Event Schedule

When all names have been called, everyone else in attendance will raise their flashlight and that will be the moment we turn on the SkyTracker search light. That, in turn, will be the signal for everyone in Asheville who cannot attend the event to step onto their porch, yard, or street and shine their own light toward the night. It’s all about shining a light on a commitment to “Stopping the Harm” of hard drugs in Asheville ~ together…

Flashlight Vigil for Thursday Evening Reminder

The goal of the Asheville-Buncombe Drug Commission is to "light up the sky" over Asheville this coming Thursday evening. The flashlight drug harm vigil on city-county plaza will find participants shining their lights skyward as they call the name of someone who has been harmed by drugs. Around 7:00 a giant searchlight beam coming from city-county plaza will be the signal for everyone in Asheville is who concerned about the harms of hard drugs to step onto their porch or yard and shine their own light.

The treatment success rate for addiction to crack cocaine and meth are abysmal. Some studies state that no more than 10% of those who become addicted to these drugs are able to achieve long term success in breaking away. We should not stop trying to help those already addicted, but greatest success will occur with

impairing recruitment of new users.

We must stop the harm!

“Stop the Harm” Flashlight Vigil

Bringing our community together to shine a light on the harms of hard drugs…

Where: City-County Plaza (you bring a flashlight and we’ll bring the red cellophane covers)

When: Thursday evening, February 22, 2007, rain, snow or shine from 6:30-7:15 pm

Who: Anyone who has lost a family member to drugs, been personally affected by drugs, is

living near drug activity, or who cares about the harms.

Why: To highlight the harms of hard drugs, illuminate causes, and call the public and city leaders to action in addressing our open air drug market.

Event Schedule

• Introductory comments- Councilman Mumpower
• Opening prayer- Pastor Whitesides
• Welcome from the Mayor- Mayor Bellamy
• Take a stand- Matt Mittan
• Presentation by a father and son on drug harms- Shad & Shad Jr. Waters
• Presentation by a young lady- Ms. Amy
• Fighting back with song- Rockell Whitesides
• Flashlight ceremony – voices and lights over the city! Carl Mumpower
• “Stop the Harm” chant- Selina Sullivan
• Closing prayer followed by the Lord’s Prayer- Pastor Buddy Corbin

This will be a 30-40 minute event from beginning to end. Each presentation will be 2-3 minutes. The highlight will be a ceremony where participants (everyone is asked to bring a flashlight) will shine their light on the ground – those who have a family member, friend, or loved one who has been harmed will have a red cover on their flashlight and one by one call a name they wish to recognize and raise their flashlight toward the night as they do so. When all names have been called, everyone else in attendance will raise their flashlight and that will be the moment we turn on the SkyTracker search light. That, in turn, will be the signal for everyone in Asheville who cannot attend the event to step onto their porch, yard, or street and shine their own light toward the night. It’s all about shining a light on a commitment to “Stopping the Harm” of hard drugs in Asheville ~ together…
