Rev. Walter Middleton, 93 passed away Sunday morning April 15, 2012 at Medwest Harris Hospital. He was a native of Jackson County. He was preceded in death by his Parents Talmage Ferry and Minnie Parker Middleton and one sister and his first wife Hazel Brooks Middleton and second wife Sara Laveine Middleton. A veteran of WII serving in the US Army he was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Walter was a minister in Jackson County for 42 years and a former Associational Missionary and served as pastor in many churches in the county. He was the author of four books.
He is survived by one daughter Lorna and James Thompson of Charlotte, One son Arlin and Rebecca Middleton of Sylva and one brother Orville Middleton of Denver, NC; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Sylva First Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Rev. John Bunn Officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors was conducted by American Legion Post 104. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Broyhill Childrens Home, 397 Sneed Dr., Clyde, NC 28721.
