Tips for Avoiding Colds, the Flu and Various Stomach Bugs this Winter






The cold and flu season is here and many people in Macon County are suffering through these illnesses, including a nasy stomach bug that is active and the best way to combat them is through preventive measures. 


Here are a Baker's Dozen list of preventative measures you can take to limit the spread of the cold and flu:



•Getting flu vaccine is your best defense against getting the flu
•Wash your hands frequently, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, being with ill people and especially before you eat

•Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
•Avoid sharing objects
•Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes
•Get enough sleep and avoid getting "run down"
•Reduce stress
•Use tissues for coughs and sneezes and dispose of them immediately and appropriately

•Exercise regularly
•Eat right and get regular exercise
•Avoid crowds and keep your distance from people whom you know are ill
•If you are sick, avoid contact with the frail, very young and elderly
•If you are sick, stay home from work or school
