LOCAL OUTLOOK

High pressure will move offshore today bringing warm southerly flow to the region. A wet cold front will cross the region late Monday into early Tuesday. In the front`s wake, a dry high pressure will overspread the region and persist through the rest of the week.

TODAY

Patchy fog in the morning. It should burn off fairly quickly. Mostly sunny skies with highs in the low-to-mid 50s at the higher elevations to near 60 in the lower elevations. Calm winds.

TONIGHT

Patchy fog is expected to develop after midnight. Mostly cloudy skies with lows ranging from the lower 30s at the higher elevations to the upper 30s in the lower elevations. Winds are expected to be calm or very light from the northwest.



MONDAY

Cloudy with highs ranging from the lower 50s at the higher elevations to the upper 50s in the lower elevations. Winds 5 to 10 mph out of the southeast. Rain chances start at 10% at 9 am and increase to 60% at 6 pm with rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch expected and more in locations that see thunderstorms. The greatest chance of thunderstorms will be between 4 pm and 11 pm.

MONDAY NIGHT Rain and Thunder with a Rapid Temperature Decline after Midnight

Cloudy skies with cloud cover decreasing after midnight and becoming mostly clear by daybreak. Lows ranging from near freezing at the higher elevations to the mid-30s in the lower elevations. Winds around 10 mph from the southeast shifting to come out of the west after midnight. Rain chances are around 60% at 6 pm and peak out at 80% in the 10 pm to midnight time frame than decrease to near 0% by daybreak with a possible change over to snow before daybreak. Rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible, except in locations that see thunderstorms. The greatest chance of thunderstorms in before 11 pm. Little or no snowfall accumulation is expected.



TUESDAY

Mostly sunny skies with highs ranging from the low-to-mid 40s at the higher elevations to near 50 in the lower elevations.

TUESDAY NIGHT

Mostly clear with lows ranging from near 20 at the higher elevations to the mid-20s in the lower elevations.

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC. Opioid overdose reversal kits including naloxone are available free of charge.
