Rain chances will increase today and become likely tonight and persist into Monday morning with a slight chance of snow showers at the end of the rain. A dry weather pattern will then last into early Thursday when more rain is expected to arrive.

THREE DAY OUTLOOK



TODAY

Cloudy skies with temperatures starting out in the upper 20s at the higher elevations and near freezing in the lower elevations and rising to the mid-40s at the higher elevations and near 50 in the lower elevations. Temperatures should drop slightly after 3 pm. Winds will start off mostly clam, then increase to around 5 mph our of the northwest in the afternoon, then drop back to being very light out of the northwest. Rain chances will start out at around 20% at 6 am and gradually increase to around 40% in the afternoon. Rainfall accumulations are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch today.

TONIGHT

Cloudy skies with patchy fog expected to develop overnight. Lows will range from the upper 30s at the higher elevations to the lower 40s in the lower elevations. Winds will be calm or very light out of the northwest. Rain chances will increase overnight, going from around 40% at 6 pm to near 70% at 6 am. Rainfall amounts should be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.



SUNDAY

Cloudy and rainy with highs ranging from near 50 at the higher elevations to the low-to-mid-50s in the lower elevations. 70% chance of rain with rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch expected.

SUNDAY NIGHT

Mostly cloudy skies expected to become mostly clear by 6 am. Lows are expected to be in the upper 20s at the higher elevations and near freezing in the lower elevations. Rain chances drop from 70% at 6 pm to 10% at 6 am. Rain should end before 3 am. Rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch expected. Snow showers are possible where temperatures drop below freezing, but little or no accumulation is expected for most of Macon County.



MONDAY

Mostly sunny skies with highs ranging from the mid-40s at the higher elevations to near 50 in the lower elevations. Winds 5 to 10 mph out of the northwest. A wind field is currently expected to cross the county in the afternoon and evening hours, with gusts expected to reach the 20 mph range.

MONDAY NIGHT

Partly cloudy skies with lows rang inf from the mid-to-upper teens at the higher elevations to around 20 in the lower elevations.

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC. Opioid overdose reversal kits including naloxone are available free of charge.
