Franklin, NC, July 25, 2018- The Nantahala National Forest will temporarily close the Dirty John shooting range in western Macon County for upgrades on Thursday, August 2.
"We will be upgrading the target holders and installing a system like the one at the Moss Knob shooting range," said Nantahala District Ranger Mike Wilkins. "We regret the inconvenience to visitors but the result will be a much-improved experience for future users."
Metal rods will replace the vertical wood posts for a more durable and long-lasting system that supports the netting used to hang the targets. The one-day closure will allow a safe time for crews to work and for the concrete to harden.
The range is expected to reopen Friday, August 3.
