Robin Cape's Partisan Power Grab

My copy of the Asheville City-Council Meeting won't arrive until later in the week, but others are busy parsing the content from the latest meeting, and fellow blogger Tim Peck has already posted one (from which I stole the title for this post), and here it is:

You're just being inflammatory? I thought her explanation was interesting and germane.

IMHO, partisan elections will likely improve prospects for third party and unaffiliated candidates, since they won't have to run a primary. No unaffiliated or third party candidate has made it to the general.

Now, get the signatures, make the ballot. It's actually increased access for folks who may have a harder time raising money for a primary. Further, Let Asheville Vote's passionate effort has proven that it's entirely possible to get the signatures in a short period of time, given enough organizing and support.

Anyway - It's going to be down to the wire on the petition - deadline tomorrow - and then we'll see.

Inflammatory?!?
I did not state a position, for or against. Take off your coloured glasses, Screwy! Or, do you automatically assume I'll be on the opposite side that you are on?

Now, to the video:
Those who support her, and her position, can find little wrong with her statements in the video.
Those who oppose her, and her position, can find much wrong with her statements in the video.
That is why I feel the video is truly excellent...both sides can legitimately use it to support their positions.

Her comments reveal to me that perhaps she is, or was, a student of Saul Alinksy; also that she is a Gorite, and other things of use.

It's funny that you don't remember me commenting on your blog
(I can't look it up right now because I am at home on dial up) that I was for the return to partisan elections, I know I've been blasted behind closed doors for saying so, by Democrats, Libertarians, and Republicans.

One of the reasons I supported the Fab Four's methods was that I saw the potential for blowback that could damage them politically, the other was that I believed something like this is necessary to wake the local GOP up from it's slumber. They do not provide the level of support for their candidates that the Democrat Party does, and with the partisan labels, Money can be brought in from sources outside the state (forget about the state GOP) that would match, even exceed that of the Democrats. Several National Organizations are interested in recovering Asheville, and they cannot participate in non-partisan elections.

And I thought you knew that I don't support third parties, I have given Matt Mittan enough grief about it on the air bringing up Duverger's Law and other supporting arguments. He has never adequately responded.
I also thought that I had made enough fun of third parties, and their candidates, on this blog.

Politically speaking, in our current electoral system, the only way for a third party to gain power is at the expense of one of the other two...like how the anti-slavery Republican party replaced the pro-slavery Whigs in the 1800s.

The only third parties I support are the leftist ones, because they siphon off votes from the Democrat Party on the state and national level.

Robin Cape is correct, we have very little time left to save the planet. Our methods will have to change in order to meet our goals, even if we have to impose a temporary takeover of society, until we can be sure the earth is safe.

TP,

I was referring to your headline. You're saying that's not inflammatory? Or is it ironic?

I have heard Bryan Freeborn and others council members state that there are really great advantages to unaffiliated candidates when running for office under partisan election conditions.

I am so happy to hear that the progressive majority on city council, who voted to push forward partisan elections in Asheville, is doing everything they can to selflessly help the unaffiliated gain advantages in the election process.

With friends like these, who needs political enemies?
