Macon County Emergency Management Issues Update on IRMA

Macon County Emergency Management continues to closely monitor the track of Hurricane Irma. While updated models show a predicted track of lrma tracking more to the west of the Carolinas. confidence remains moderate to high that some parts of Western North Carolina will still see some impact from Irrna, However. confidence remains low as to what these impacts will be Strong to damaging wind gusts could result in downed trees and power lines causing travel disruptions and power outages across the area. Total rainfall amounts of 3" — 6" may lead to flash flooding and rapid inundation of low lying areas The effects of Hurricane Irma may be felt in our area as early as midday Monday. September 11‘".

•Residents should take steps as described below to be prepared not just for this event but for future weather events that might affect our area:
•Residents should pay close attention to weather forecast in the coming days.

•Pay particular attention to flood prone areas and be prepared to evacuate if flooding impacts our region,
•Check disaster supplies, including such items as non-perishable food and water supplies,
•Remember to keep necessary medication prescriptions filled.
•Be prepared for power outages and loss of other utility services

Plans to open an emergency shelter for residents that need to leave their home are in place if and when the need arises, Residents are urged to call 828-369-9116 to report non emergency situations This number should not be called for
informational requests.

Macon County Emergency Management will continue to monitor this event and keep residents updated as conditions change.
