GENERAL OUTLOOK
Cold and dry high pressure will build into the region through Thursday, keeping temperatures well below normal. An area of low pressure will form near the Texas coast early Thursday and track across the Gulf Coast and reach the Carolinas Friday into early Saturday. Moisture spreads over the region in the cold air with wintry weather forecast which ends on Saturday as the low moves off to the east. Dry and cold weather returns early next week.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...
* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches possible.
* WHERE...The mountains of northeast Georgia and southwest North Carolina.
* WHEN...From Friday morning through Saturday morning.
* IMPACTS...The heavy snow will make many roads impassable and may produce widespread power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Snow is expected to spread into the region Friday morning. Snow will continue through the afternoon and evening, then taper off early Saturday morning. Several inches of snow are expected, potentially causing significant travel impacts.
Bitterly cold wind chills of 5 to 10 below zero will be possible late tonight into Thursday morning in elevations above 3500 ft. Additionally, wintry precipitation is expected to develop across portions of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia Friday afternoon through early Saturday. There is still uncertainty regarding the specific precipitation types and amounts, but significant accumulations are possible.
