Susan Pons Says It's Time To Make Changes In Raleigh

There comes a time for change for everything and now is time for change in the N.C. General Assembly, said Susan Corbett Pons of Franklin.

Pons, a Republican running for the District 50 seat in the state Senate, said that Democrats have dominated the Legislature for the last 180 years.

Pons said one area in need of change is bills that get stuck in committee. So many bills are sent to committee and do not come out until the committee decides it is time to vote on them. “We’re not having any vote on so many of these things coming up, neither are the representatives nor senators,” Pons said, since some bills stay in committee for years.

Pons said a bill banning partial-birth abortions is one of the ones stuck in committee, which even the federal government has passed a bill on. Another bill stuck in committee is a stronger bill on eminent domain, which would provide security for homeowners.

As far as the budget is concerned, Pons said the state is killing small towns and rural school systems with unfunded mandates.
