What about Bush kissing/holding hands with the Saudi prince?

I recall that people on both sides were upset about it.

He didn't bow to him.

Obama was looking at that big diamond ring that was bought with our interest on our money

I laughed out loud at that one!!!

It's sad, but close to the truth.

Never studied martial arts, have you? Bowing is a sign of courtesy and respect, not submission.

I've studied more than you think. You are comparing apples and oranges, Jessica.

I was not aware that Obama was about to engage the Emperor of Japan in a martial arts contest. Funny that I missed that part.

The bow that Obama offered was wrong. It was the bow of a waiter, or of someone who had done wrong. You are not supposed to bow during a handshake. The White House Protocol Office should have told him that...but I bet that they did, and Obama ignored them.

Here is a snippet from an ABC Blog by Jake Tapper:

"Obama's handshake/forward lurch was so jarring and inappropriate it recalls Bush's back-rub of Merkel.

"Kyodo News is running his appropriate and reciprocated nod and shake with the Empress, certainly to show the president as dignified, and not in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs.

"The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms....The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part.
