Today in Weather History

1551 (or 1556): Grand Harbour of Malta tornado. A tornado that began as a waterspout killed about 600 people and capsized at least for ships.

1941: Hurricane Two of the 1941 Atlantic Hurricane Season, also known as The Texas Hurricane of 1941, came ashore near Bay City, Texas. Seven people were killed and $6.5 million (about $110 million in 2018 dollars) in damages occured. More information on the storm can be found on Wikipedia. [LINK]


1975: Hurricane Eloise came ashore on the Florida panhandle. The storm killed 80 people and caused $560 million in damages and the name was retired from the list of Atlantic storms.
